Made in India, Brit parts?

https://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-LADIES-R...item3f062cd350

Seller states all the parts are made in England, what's the chance?

I'm looking for a loop frame and fork, only, if anyone has one.

Yeah, I think the price is a bit steep. I've seen near-minty DL-1s that were actually made in Nottingham for less than that on the 'Bay. I ignored one last summer that was beyond clean, pleasantly old and cost half that much. Weird.

It may be exactly what the seller says it is, but he hasn't convinced me. He hasn't shown any evidence that the bike says Raleigh on it anywhere, or RMI. He says Roadster, but the bike is clearly branded Roadmaster. I mean, I know it's a roadster, but why doesn't he mention that all the decals say Roadmaster (not Raleigh)? I'd like to get a look at the headbadge, or the fender decal, etc.

Right, well, the price is nuts, but studying the frame details, it really looks like an India built frame. No indication of anything Raleigh about it.
You know what the big give-away is? Chrome, or lack of it. Very thin chrome on India bikes, headset races, no chrome at all.
It is one of the nicer India-made bikes though, but $200, tops.

I agree. RMI seems to stand for Road Master Industries. I know Raleigh used to make bikes that didn't say Raleigh on them anywhere, but it's a bit of a stretch to conclude that Raleigh made all the bikes that don't say Raleigh on them.

Back before things started to change in the 1990's, there were pretty high tariffs on bicycles, but since domestic bicycle companies often needed to import some parts, the same tariffs were not on parts, and companies like Raleigh found ways around the tariffs, by building an assembly plant, shipping ship loads of bicycle parts all over the world, including the frames, then assembling the bikes domestically. My Raleigh road bike is one of these, assembled in Waterloo, Qc everything part, including the head badge is British made (it says Nottingham on it). They had another assembly plant in the US, and likely one in India after the Indian independence, however before 1947, anything that is Raleigh made, would have been made in Britain, as India was a British colony until 1947, so would not have had tariffs on British goods.

It's possible that a bicycle could be Raleigh, made in India at a time right after independence and use another brand name to hide the fact as right after independence, Indians may not have been entirely happy with Britain.

Pretty color. That's important.
