NC velos !

Hi all I am looking for lovers of old bikes to join me on a ride of some sort this spring. Maybe the Charlotte or Asheville area. Come join me and my vintage Motobecane for a friction cable pride ride !

You might be interested in the Classic Rendezvous in Greensboro on May 20-22. https://www.classicrendezvous.com/weekend/schedule.htm. I'd probably join a ride in the Charlotte area if one comes together.

I'm always game for a ride out west.
I'm doing the Blue Ridge, starting in Waynesville, the week after Easter.

Keep us posted. Back around 1999 me & a few others had monthly vintage rides around the Atlanta area. It was lots of fun. Then i became a father and had to back out. I wish we could form a new group here in ATL.

Really, Greensboro and Charlotte are about the same distance for me. I could potentially do it if people are willing to wait til later in the day so I can actually get there. Can't commit too soon as I have no clue what would be going on with work.

I'm thinking I might be too vintage to do the BRP or Asheville on one of my old bikes. The largest freewheel I have doesn't look all that large to me these days, and the old brakes just don't slow me the way I'd like them to in the mountains.

What?? I can't count as an NC'er? I can see your state from the ridges around my house... that has to count for something.

State was my second choice for schools...

still no?

I am kind of the same boat...less hours, more travel and a smaller car...time to buy a Brommie.

Never no, always yes. Come one and all. How far are you from Fancy Gap?

If I could go directly there, not far at all. I live in the county beside Fancy Gap. To get there I have to jump on I-81 then head south on I-77. It turns into a 45 minute drive because of how indirect things are. If I could drive straight there it'd probably take 25-30 minutes.

I am in the Hickory area and can plan a ride with enough notice. I'd love to start a vintage riding club in WNC one day. A buddy of mine in West Georgia came up with a name ..WooHoo Vintage Riders Club...I thought that was cute name...

Robbie How far are you going on the Blue Ridge. I have done a bunch of little 20 mile sections over the years. There are a few very long grades that never seem to stop.
I haven't ridden much on the last 18 months but plan to ride a lot this spring.

Sounds like fun!!!

For years I've been wanting to get a semi-local group together once a month to ride vintage bikes and hang out. I live in Fort Mill, SC (just south of the border from Charlotte).

What, where and when did you have in mind?

I would be up for a june/july ride based from the asheville area. Not close to me or robbie but, plenty of ride options (BRP), places to stay, and downtown is full on.

469 miles. 8 days.
50,000ft of total climbing.
Of course, descending, too.
Depart Cherokee NC 4/29 am.
Arrive Waynesboro VA 5/6 pooped.

Anyone interested in a leg would be most welcome.
Anyone who wants to tow me up the first day (22 mile climb to begin) is even more welcome.
Then again, day two is about the same.

I was going to get my Century-a-month in there somewhere, but I'm guessing I'll be doing that on a training day prior.

Robbie, should my Gazelle be ready by then, and you happen through my area on a weekend, I'd be interested in joining for a short leg. Lots of ifs there haha. Keep us updated on the day to day of it.

I figure if I take my wife's smart phone, I'll accomplish two things:

1-I'll stay in touch.
2-She'll miss me.

A plus is that we can use WebMD if I have a coronary.

Subscribed. I hope to do some more rides this year and this sound fun. Probably pull the Porteur rack off the Raleigh that's not a Raleigh and run it. Hopefully I can get it painted before then.

Anyone planning on going to the Classic Rendezvous in Greensboro May 19-22 ? https://www.classicrendezvous.com/weekend/schedule.htm I would like to meet and do rides in the area between Charlotte and Asheville on Saturday AM's or PM's. I live in the middle of the two so I can travel in either direction.

I might look into going down Saturday for the "D" paced ride and events later in the day. Will depend a lot on my schedule.
