Here is the 1989 catalog.
I have the 22.5" Ascent EX with Deore LX. It's the nicest mountain bike I've come across over 22" that wasn't a boat anchor.
Ascent looks to be right in the middle in 1989 with Exage.

Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.
Mid/High-level model. I have a '95 Ascent EX frameset, all True Temper AVR tubing. Nice construction, only inferior point were the decals. Not under any clearcoat; they are drying out and flaking off. According to BikePedia, mine came with Shimano Deore LX and STX components.

OH what kind of cages are those? I think the OPs bike is older than '89. they don't show yellow in the catalog, but those smoke colors were groovy

Here is my 1992 DB Ascent EX puchased NOS last year (this is a 20" frame - bought a matching one with 18" frame for my wife):

I love the feel of the early DBs. Along with these two, one son has a 20" Sorrento and other son has a 21" Topanga. Only the Sorrento has the tapered forks.

I believe the Ascent and Apex traded the "top of the line up" a couple of times. I think yours is a mid 80's. Probably second from the top. Later models were Axis, Apex, Ascent ex, Ascent and something else. Its one of the nicer Ascents. I had an Apex. Great bike. Sold it to another BF member. Wish I would of kept it. I missed an 85 Ascent on Ebay.
