Darn Hipsters ruining everything

Saw this today on WIRED

Just keep your distance and don't feed them, the're generaly harmless.

Dustintendo 02-02-11 12:26 PM

whats the problem?

tugrul 02-02-11 12:30 PM

That guy powder coating without a mask, that can't be good.

KonAaron Snake 02-02-11 12:33 PM

I'm not getting the problem here. If a guy toiling building frames is getting recognition, that's awesome. If the Arcade Fire kids like bikes, great...just don't drew them.

triplebutted 02-02-11 12:39 PM

Makes all the old steel bikes I wanna get more EXPENSIVE NOW!!! :)

auchencrow 02-02-11 12:48 PM

Hmmm. . . Hipsters riding geared bikes - and soon horizontal top-tubes. - Soon they'll be US!:)

Zillon 02-02-11 12:52 PM

I fail to see the issue...

I thought this thread was going to be about hipsters cutting off derailleur tabs or something. Instead, you're worried about a guy fulfilling his passion?

triplebutted 02-02-11 12:54 PM

No, really, I'm happy more people are riding. Even myself, at a young tender age, wanted to learn frame building back in the 80's. This is cool stuff but more sad that steel bikes are getting more expensive. Oh wait, then my stuff will be worth more! Sweet.

triplebutted 02-02-11 12:57 PM

I guess I'm just feeling old :(
We weren't called hipsters in the 80's. We were just called "those freaking cyclists that's taking up the road"

KonAaron Snake 02-02-11 12:57 PM

Look at it this way...it makes the bikes you have more valuable :)

I think we got called alternateens.

dwellman 02-02-11 01:04 PM

I don't get the hipsters reference, but I liked the article.

Collin2424 02-02-11 01:05 PM

Off-topic, but for anyone in the area that ride through Occidental is amazing. What a cool ride and a cool town. The only time I've done it, however, was on a Harley Electraglide that I rented. I think I should re-do that ride on a bike.

Just being a cyclist isn't what makes you a hipster.

Zillon 02-02-11 01:15 PM

If anyone needed a reminder...

I don't get where the OP was going with this either, but I enjoyed the article. Thanks!

Sycip builds some beautiful bikes.

rothenfield1 02-02-11 01:22 PM

Hey! I resemble that remark. My daughter still laughs at my soul patch.

triplebutted 02-02-11 01:27 PM

You guys are too touchy. I think there's too much snow in the country and most everyone is getting cabin fever. Relax guys, just a cool article on frame building. I threw the hipster part in there cause they look like hipsters. But they are making old bikes more expensive. Even my friends at work are asking me to get them an old frame and make a SS. Its all good. Get out and work out! Sweet.

triplebutted 02-02-11 01:29 PM

What's a soul patch?

caloso 02-02-11 01:31 PM

See the thing under Diz's lower lip?

Hahaha!! Trust fund check. Love it. You guys are master google image masters!!!

liquefied 02-02-11 01:38 PM

Didn't see any hipsters. Cool article though.

They expressed their feelings with relatively civilized comments. People were pretty mellow in SoCal back then, which is very cool. In New York it was, as Axl Rose would put it, "welcome to the jungle, baby". The tire tracks across our backs weren't necessarily T-shirt graphics back in those days. :innocent:

khatfull 02-02-11 01:58 PM

This is such a complete non-issue, I have no idea where the hipster thing even enters the picture.

Looks like a fight searching for a ring?
