Kurt, you've likely seen this before, but here's the Raleigh flyer from 1971 with the Int'l and the Pro on the front cover:

And the specs:

Ha, when you said Raleigh flyer I thought it was an ad for some obscure variant of the Carlton Flyer. I looked at the picture for a while trying to figure out which one was the Flyer.

Appreciate that, Neal - almost forgot to check that mini-catalog. Had two of the color date ranges wrong.

I just noticed how odd the '71 Int'l sizing was with 2" increments: 20.5", 22.5", 24.5"! A friend has a 22.5" in chartreuse he's thinking of selling, but I'd prefer a 23".

That's Raleigh for you - they still thought they were building a Sports.

Is that crankset on the Raleigh Professional pictured in the 1971 catalog fitted with 151 or 144 BCD cranks?

Can't tell, but certainly 144s...

Wow, great job. Now you must add a page on Carlton Flyers, the father of the Raleigh International.

I'll add what I have knowledge of, and nothing else. That's where Sheldon screwed up.

Well, I have this one that is pretty original I'd guess early-mid 60s, and this frame I hope to restore one day... I love Carltons!

Okay, I braved today's cold temps to take some pics of the Int'l fleet. The only spot I could find that had a decent backdrop without snow cover was the garage door of a neighborhood apartment building, and I don't think the colors quite came through, but anyway:

'71 Raleigh International in "champagne" (F serial #): This has been my workhorse as the highly patina-ed frameset gives me no compulsion to ride it in all kinds of awful conditions. New over the winter are a pair of fluted V-O fenders and a DiaCompe mini front rack. Otherwise, it's a frankenbuild:

Newest member of the fleet is a '72 in "chartreuse" (G serial #). I'll likely keep it Campified but will need to swap in a short, longer stem for my poor aching neck:

And my '74 in silver/grey. I've set this one up as a rough-stuff bike and had great fun with it last summer. Tufo cyclocross tubulars, SunTour XC mechs, Sugino AT crankset set up as a compact double. The Brooks Pro saddle has a tear that keeps getting worse on each ride.

Very nice, Neal! What are those shallow drop bars on the first Int'l?

Thanks, Justin. Those bars are some old GB touring bars. Very comfy!

Neal - I spent 15 minutes trying to decide which color I liked best, but couldn't decide...
- It only goes to show a man can't have too many great Internationals!

Thanks, Auchen. That last one really isn't blue--it's silver/grey. I'll get a better pic in front of my favorite brick wall in another month or so once the snow melts.
