I think the 50+ folks do a group jersey order every year or so, I think they spell out the minimums in one of their annual threads on the subject.

For me it would come down to price, design, and sizing.

Several forums do it, through Champsys. But they are not wool. Wool will limit your options, and cost more.

+1 I'd prefer a subdued color scheme as well.

I'd want wool provided it's merino. I'm mildly allergic to regular wool. If it was going to be regular wool then my choice would be synthetic.

So what is the plan for the graphics? I am willing to help with the logo or whatever, if needed.

I bought a long-sleeve trainer jersey. It's excellent, but I'm all jerseyed out now (having received a Wabi Woolens one over the holidays).

I've seen a few group-buys fall apart over the years, but iab put together a very successful group buy from Portland Cyclewear in January of 2009. I think iab's buy was successful because he went with plain jerseys - no design - but we were able to pick the style, color and sleeve length. Not trying to throw cold water on this attempt, just an observation.

A local bike shop got a good buy on some merino wool jerseys on closeout, from a place that does those kinds of things. I could ask him who his vendor was.

Another rider and I wore the jersey on a recent group ride:

I've never worn a wool jersey, so I guess it doesn't matter.

The 50+ forum does one when Curtis had the time (cccorlew) since putting it together is awfully time consuming for him. He had the graphics and design on file where he gets them from. He sets a minimum for the order based on the company's requirements. We can usually choose from short sleeve, long sleeve, sleeveless, shorts, bibs, jackets and long legged. My wife and I have one each and the look great. He also sets a time limit on how long we can order them each time. A spread sheet with the orders is posted by Curtis so they can be tracked by us. You need to decide (the main person accepting orders here) on whether to take Paypal or checks and other payment methods as ya'll/him/her see(s) fit.

I'd be interested in a C&V jersey if an order gets the green light here by enough members Keep us posted.

I know Curtis, and ride with him sometimes. As far as I know, he has done a couple for the NorCal forum, as well as at least one design and one re-order for the 50+ crowd. In both forums, he did the design work and the order handling.

In ALL case, Champsys was the vendor. They are decent quality, have low minimums, and have fairly quick turnaround time...... but like I said in an earlier post, NO WOOL. If you want wool, you'll have to look somewhere else.

I tried to pull an order together for Voler jerseys once because they fit well and wear like iron, but couldn't get the 15 jersey minimum - but again, they offer no wool.

Am I missing something? I thought the idea was to have a C&V jersey to identify us as part of THIS community. If the jersey has no graphics or logos to identify them then what it is the point? I already have tons of generic jerseys that are paid for.

+1 Voler would be a good option. Personally, I wouldn't buy a jersey that doesn't fit the way I like. That means, that I would probably prefer race cut... and would opt out if they are club cut, sleeveless, or have cheap zippers. Since my opinion will probably be in the minority in C & V, no need to go out of your way to meet my criteria.

Voler would be problematic, then. They require a minimum of 15 for each item. Champsys is similar, but they mix and match. For example, you'd have to get 15 others to go along with exactly the item you wanted, whereas Champsys will mix/match the minimum - some race cut, some club, 3/4 zippers, full zip, etc.

Good luck getting 15 race cuts jerseys ordered around here. . And not to belabor the point, but these folks are talking wool - and Voler does not do wool.

I have very good ties with a wide variety of makers and have been involved with a number of group buys and it is an exercise fraught in difficulty as you can well understand from just reading the posts so far. Everybody has differing opinions and needs and it is very hard to reconcile them.

$75 for a quality wool jersey is not realistic, all the more so if you want to get something customized and made out of Merino.

As regards championsystem, any and every serious rider who I have ever spoken to has said that their shorts are absolutely junk. For a non-technical jersey, they are acceptable, but by the same token virtually every maker is (with the caviat that championsystem has low minimums and a very good price). If you want a technical jersey, they are not that great

That's why I'm trying to be realistic. The ones they had at the Wildflower century and at Solvang I think were Voler, and very good quality.

I'm on the sidelines for this one. I don't want wool, and having bought a Champion Systems kit once was enough. I like the Voler stuff for the reasons you cite - good fit and good quality. But you'll never get an order together, they cost too much and you'll never pull the minimum required. Too many people will want too many variations.
