Campagnolo Nuovo Gran Sport or Shimano "Arabesque" 600?

Which do you you think would be best on a modest C&V Italian road bike build, Campagnolo Gran Sport or Shimano "Arabesque" 600? The Nuovo Gran Sport is a bit low on the totem pole, but it is Italian. Any thoughts on either grupo?

He is my ALAN, pure Italian with a near full Shimano 600 Arabesque group installed. I like it. Well, liked it. The bicycle now lives on the other side of the big pond.

Functionally every bit as good as Nuovo Record.

Gran sport! Keep it italian all the way. Gran sport might look like it's low on the totem pole, but that's all just polish for the brakes and the cranks. The rear derailer, however, is fugly. It seems many bikes had those swapped out later by sr, triomphe or sth like that, or even shimano stuff. The 600 is great too anyway, in my opinion the only pretty thing ever to come out of the far east.

It is a good thing because you can pick up Nuovo Gran Sport pretty cheap! I got interested in bikes when Campagnolo NR was the best you could get and what everyone aspired to. Still feel that way, still use it!

Nothing wrong with Japanese if that's what you like, but to me it has little appeal.

Lugged steel Italian frame? Campy. The only significant functional advantage that the 600 would have is the rear derailleur. Later Shimano groups had improved cosmetics, but the Arabesque group just doesn't look the part for my money (not that NGS is all that hot either, but...)
