Shimano 600 Brake Question

Hi,

Recently bought a set of Shimano 600 brake levers. Of course they're old and of course the gum hoods are ROTTEN.

So my question is, can I use these brakes without the hoods? Do I reallllllllly need these?

Thanks.

Bikes: Trek 420, Cyclops

You don't need them but I find the brakes to be very uncomfortable without hoods.

They seem to always be on ebay if you want some new ones.

Bikes: late 80's bianchi campion d'italia, early 90's trek 2100, early 90's shogun selectra, mid 90's aluminum marin xcMTB, dept. store grade but upgraded columbia double eagle tandem

Heck yes you need them, unless you want your bike to look like some gaspipe jalopy!

But that don't make them in clear. (Yes, I know this is weird). Do you know if these will fit?

Those are modern hoods meant for brake shifters and wont work for your levers. I sometimes think that brake lever hoods were designed specifically to perplex the generations to come. Fortunately for you, your hoods aren't that uncommon.

That's what I figured. Thanks guys for the help.

I think I'm going sans hoods or black if I feel like dropping $40.
