old Montgomery Wards 1-speed from childhood!
I've got a Montgomery Wards branded 1-speed, pedal brake bike from my childhood.
I want to re-furb it. It may not be a classic but it has huge sentimental value to me and would be a great retro bike when fixed up!
It dates from around the mid-1960s.
It has integrated headlamps and fat tires. I've started working on it.
The structure is in good shape, could use paint job and has various rust to clean up.
The big deal are the wheel fenders are chromed and have surface rust as well as some dents.
Where could I get the fenders re-chromed?
Is there any source of old, retro bike parts?
Thx,
Rob

Sounds like fun. Let's see some pictures.
I just picked up a Schwinn Bantam that's identical to the one I had as a kid. No real plans to fix it up yet but I feel better knowing that it's in the basement.
Rechroming is expensive. Replacement fenders are a better deal. You can find them on Ebay or at www.ratrodbikes.com. This guy seems to have a decent chrome substitute going;

I'd love to see pics, I used to have, as a kid, a 24 inch Wards Hawthorne that had a tank with an integral light. If memory serves, mine was a rebadged Rollfast. The frame was red, and I recall the coaster brake being almost no brake at all. I think I had it between 1964 and 1966 or so.

Koala,
Sounds like my bike! I'll try to get pics after I get my camera back from the kids.
