Just scored my first Serotta
The seller called it a 1992 Colorado Concept 2, though I'm not sure if that's the same as the Colorado 2 in the catalogue (looks like it is). It was definitely a custom.
First the bad...
CF fork and hideous threadless stem. Will change these out sometime (i hope) soon. Need a Serotta fork!
It's a repaint.
The internal routing is either damaged or ugly. Seller says ugly.
Now the good -
Complete 9 sp record group, except the wheels. Including ti record seatpost!
It's a Serotta factory repaint.
It's BEAUTIFUL!
It's perfect for my size and I'm excited.
I found a worthy mount for my new Alpe Brooks!
I love the lugs and love the curved stays
Columbus tubing...I think parts look like MAX

It'll look prettier once she gets a proper threaded stem. PUKE! This is a very nice addition to the stable...extremely worthy I think!

Ohhhh...that's not bad. I was thinking black handlebra, but that might work.
For the stem...I have a perfect Cinelli 1R in the ideal length just screaming use me. I just have to find a good fork for it now...how hard will it be to find a steel Serotta fork?

pretty bike. we need a pic directly from behind so we can see those fancy Serotta lines. I believe that DT (the MAX looking one
) is custom either for Serotta or by Serotta's shop.

BG...it looked a little like MAX at first, but I'm thinking EL OS.

Why don't you just drop the bucks and have Serotta, Bilenky, or maybe Simon Firth build you one? Fork that is!
Firth may have a moment:

In the meantime, I'd ride the daylights out of her with that carbon fork. Probably is light and responsive.

Joel from Via, who is somewhere between a work related acquaintance and a friend, is currently having his Hanford painted by Peter Weigle. His is the first Simon built under his new shop...BEAUTIFUL lugs!

Anyway, I will have them do the fork if I can't source one. No rush, I have time. I can afford to be a little extravagant on the fork.

Thyat type of top tube routing usually had a special plastic grommets that fits over the oval holes to protect the brake cable casing. Looks like the ones on that bike was lost maybe when the cables were repalced at one time.

I was thinking chrome actually...which was what came on the Colorado 2 in the catalogue.
I am NOT up on my Serottas at all. The seller called it a Colorado Concept two, but I think it's the Colorado 2 in the 1992 Catalogue. Seems to match correctly. I think some tubes are EL OS...but I'm not sure.
This is the 92 Colorado 2...the stays, fastback cluster and routing all look like a match to me.

Chuckk...there is some rust flaking at the point of routing...it was actually worrisome, but the parts group alone justified the purchase if it went south. I'll swing it over to Bilenky and see if he can do anything to address the routing. The decals bear out what you just wrote...they read Special alloys.
REALLY appreciate the post.
Serial is:
SC55
2936 (written exactly like that)
I'm reading the SC as Serotta Custom, 55cm with the number following as the production number.

Nice!! Yes, the tube set is custom drawn Colorado Concept exclusively for Serotta (by Columbus?), before Max, so maybe the inspiration for that tube set.
I have seen Serotta forks on ebay and the Serotta classifieds would probably be a good source to get a steel fork back on that beauty.

I was pretty sure MAX was before 92' and this seems to confirm:

On the fork: I have a couple of bikes with CF forks, and I do like them...but with something like this, I'd rather keep it as it was meant to be with the fork rake it was meant to be paired to. I also feel more secure hitting potholes with steel.
On the stem: They're just plain ugly...sorry, but I can't fully accept those stems (though I have them on two bikes).

Maybe
I post that about once a month and I hit about 2-3 times a year. This is easily the best score I've had (and that counts a De Rosa).

I did that one time, a few years ago. It landed me a px-10 in my size that I still have (stripped, ready for paint). I guess I should try it more often.

Let's just keep in mind that in Philly, that's my game
A couple of years ago I posted this very detailed ad for a MTB and ended up doing quite well.
