Took on a Brooks Pro...

Hey all - some of the Brooks purists may not be a fan of modifications, so if you are one, I recommend you navigate away from this page.

Long story short, I acquired a Brooks Pro wayyyyyy back from forum member Stein and stupidly drilled some holes in the apron underneath the Brooks embossing. They looked like a horrible addition, so with the help of Mike T. from this page I gave my saddle a nice do-over.

I trimmed the apron and the mantle in the rear, and then high-polished the rivets so they could hopefully take on a new tarnish.

After I was done cutting, I sanded the old finish off the entire saddle, so this new color is just from the conditioner I applied afterward.

Unfortunately, I have no before pictures, but I really like how it came out. Very streamlined and I even kept the embossings in tact.

Nice salvage. Shame we could not see the befores. And, for what it is worth, these days I always take before shots. How I wish I had done that in those days.

Alex may still have the picture from before I bought it, but it was far lighter before. This color will obviously fade, but I do believe it was the first time in many many years for this hide to get something put back onto it.

Now I just need a frame to build around it. Hopefully going to create a very cool 1x10 rig for my commute.

Came out nice, and I love that rich brown color! I believe racers back in the 60s used to call this "hot-rodding" their saddles. I have a "hot-rodded" Brooks Pro which I bought this way (only the back got the knife, not the sides):

Yeah, getting the aprons symmetrical was probably the most difficult part because I was too antsy and just starting cutting the apron without a plan, really.

There are some things that aren't very noticeable that I'm not happy with, but overall, I think it came out really good looking - just like yours SPB!

If it makes you feel any better, I got a new Brooks B17 and it's not even close to symmetrical! They mounted the leather crooked and it's fairly obvious.

Yeah, it's just really hard to get it perfect. I definitely like it and will be building a bike around it just because I like it so much.
