Trek Experts? 1985 Trek 660 (I think?)

Hey Guys,

I picked up this 660 a few months ago and have stripped it apart and just finished building it again. Was going to order new decals when I found something different between mine and the other 660s I see on VintageTreks and other google image searches.

Mine:

The difference that I keep noticing is my bike doesn't have the "USA" decal on the seat tube and my seat tube clamp bolt is located on the "outside" of the tube (I hope that makes sense). Almost every other image of this bike on the interwebs has the bolt located within the frame. I picture to explain what I mean:

Anyone know why there's a difference? Also, stay tuned for a rather long post on the completion. I'm building this as a gift for a friend and I've detailed the process and will be making a video.

What's the serial number - if you check on the vintage trek site it might shed some light.....The photo of your bike is a bit blurry I'm afraid, but do you have the cast lugs at the seat post or is it the more "normal" treatment?

Yea, sorry about the quality. I think I have the "normal treatment". The linked picture (click on that link, not the embedded picture in the post) is what I keep finding. That's what my bike doesn't have.

This (the first picture that I found that describes what I mean, not my bike) is what is on my Trek:

Mine pretty much looks like yours.

I am currently building up an 84 660 frame. The frame had been recently professionally repainted yellow. Got some decals from Velocals in red. The frame had also undergone some minor surgery. Modern cable stops were put on the top tube, and to my surprise after I received the frame, the chainstay cable stop had been removed. Have her altogether, just waiting on a clamp on cable stop to arrive to hook her up.
