Two-Speed Kickback Hub w/ Coaster Brake
Yeah? or Nay? Thinking of this set up for a pair of 650b wheels on an old Raleigh mixte. What are they like to ride? I've not used a coaster brake for, oh, probably 35 years

I've been riding the S2C since last fall, including a messy winter of commuting. I like the hub a lot, but after that treatment it needs an overhaul as shifting is sporadic. I was on it today, as a matter of fact, and keep telling myself I need to take the time to pull it apart.

I had one back in the 60's on a Schwinn. On one hand it was good...but on the other it was a PITA sometimes. Say you’re in low and have to stop, it puts you in high, so now you have to do the kickback again to get back in low. I was like 8, 9, 10 years old, so now at 57 I would probably like it. Another thing, the bike was almost too big for me, it was heavy, so with all of that it probably didn't help likening it. I'd say that if you can also add a front brake that would be a big plus! That way you wouldn't have to deal with the being in high if you don't have the time to kickback doing a stop. But like I said, I would probably like it now at my age.

Bikes: Giant Excursion, Raleigh Sports, Raleigh R.S.W. Compact, Motobecane? and about 20 more! OMG
I ride the occasional coaster brake bike and forget how convenient they can be. Can't comment on the 2 speed kickback...yet. Haven't ridden one of those in over 40 years, but at the time I thought they were pretty cool.

All I know is that as a mechanic in the 1970's when one needing help came into the shop, none of the other staff was willing to attempt fixing it so I was given a chance -- two days later I was still stumped, I think the only bike I ever could not fix. YMMV!

I recently bought a vintage early 60's Huffy tandem that has a Bendix single red band hub. Based on the response so far in this thread, I'm glad I didn't try to dis-assemble the hub. It seemed to be in relative good shape internally, so I gave it a shot of aerosol white grease at both ends and called it good. The cones take a 19mm wrench, which is larger than usual, so best to find one before starting in.

Carefule...you might get addicted to coaster brakes. I got a 3 speed w/ a coaster while back and then just last year went for a 7 speed with a coaster....over the winter I was crazy enough to drop money on a coaster brake compatible derailleur system!

It was for the bike in this thread. I'm sure I'm not the only one looking forward to seeing great German cycling technology in action!

I picked up a '62 Schwinn Racer a few weeks ago...didn't realize it was a 2 speed until I took it for a spin...for such an old bike, it works really good...kind of fun to ride...it's a little too small for me, so it's moving on...but it would make a good neighborhood/errand runner....

I got the S2C hub right about when they became available probably almost a year ago. It's still sitting in the box at the moment, but I"m getting close to pulling it out. I have a Raleigh Grand Prix that I'm going to put it on. It's going to be my super cheap and simple beater bike. The hub cost more than the rest of the bike.

Its meant for a 3 cog setup but At the very least it can be hooked up to shift 2 cogs duplexed on a Coaster Brake IGH

I wish I had decent pics of the unit I have, but its packed away right now and I can't get to it easily.
Its rod operated

I've ridden a lot of miles on a F&S Duomatic, including the 2003 PBP. Nice hub and a nice ride.
