Sorry...I don't care anywhere near enough to let anonymous people on the internet know "there" garbage.

Steely Dan are one of my favorite bands and it would be tough to pick a favorite...I really like King of the World, I really dig Dr. Wu, I love Bhoddisovtha (sp?) and one of their newer tunes...Slang of Ages...makes my favorites as well. I also really love Bring Back the Boston Rag.

"I craw like a viper through these suburban streets, make love to these women, languid and bittersweet."

Zaphod Beeblebrox 05-10-11 07:36 PM

One of my favorite bands as well. I really like the whole Gaucho album, and I like tunes where Fagen is really smarmy and lecherous like 'Everyone's gone to the movies' and "Everything You Did" and of course "Gaucho"

I saw em play with Larry Carlton on guitar last summer and it blew my mind.

it's kinda fun taking those steel rim beaters and stripping all the crap off and rebuilding it with lightweight middle of the range stuff. It's also nice to just be able to throw whatever on it and not worry about if its the "right" part or not.

Plus the UO8 i had a few years ago really did ride pretty well.

no, that would be the Giant!:p

Somehow a Peugeot with non-Mafac brakes, and a GB stem, seems all wrong to me. Is it French sized? [/QUOTE]

They're a love them or hate them band...very few people are neutral towards Steely Dan. I went from hating them when younger to loving them. The strengths are incredibly sharp, sarcastic, smarmy lyrics with a great musical counterpoint which often emphasizes the subtlety. They also have pretty...well...untraditional vocals which can grate on folks. They can also come across as soft jazz at casual listening levels. They get amazing studio muscians and their songs are a lot more complex and interesting than a casual listen might indicate.

I've heard there's a PX-10, perfect shape, over in Barrytown. A Major Dude told me.

I've loved Steely Dan since they released Can't Buy a Thrill.

Was he a show biz kid?

I'm sorta paralleling you - I didn't like them much growing up, but now I like them quite a bit.

I've softened my stance on Disco over the years, too. Still don't like it, but I can now pretty much sublimate my rage when I hear it being played. the tic is mostly gone, too.

I Am Iron Man.

it makes sense that old folks like Steely Dan. YOu can fall asleep listening to them while sitting in your Lazyboy.

Come to think of it, Steely Dan would make a good forum handle for someone here in C&V.

+1

I spent much of the 70's getting up and changing the radio station whenever Steely Dan came on. I got a lot of exercise.

I don't hate them nearly as much as I used to, but that's only because I now live in a pretty much Steely Dan free zone.

It would but the Innuendo might be too much for the G-rated crowd  William Burroughs - Naked Lunch.

The fact that the Peugeot has a GB stem and Weinmann brakes did seem rather odd for a french thing.
