Yep...I noticed their quality when I was lubing everything up. I really like platforms with no foot retention at all, so I removed the straps and ride without. I've slipped off pedals so many times racing with neighborhood friends growing up that I've developed a pretty good sense of balance (+ size 14 feet) so I never felt any benefit from the year & ½ I was clipless vs the numerous hassles. The day I joined club tombay was the day they came off

Is that a repaint though? The tubing looks welded like the Trek style proprad, but that is the pre-Trek logo right? Also I love Proprad's and Wayzata's sweet rides.

Yes, it was powder coated last year. The decals were acquired from Velocal.com. I am loving this bike. I wanted an 853 Reynolds and this is the one I purchased. Ultegra 9 speed upgrade was a definite plus. It is a favorite group of mine. I am also a fan of the Mavic Pro rims with the Ultegra hubs. I have another set I purchased from a BF member and they are mounted on an Airborne Zeppelin titanium, another used bike purchase.

Check out my new '77 Tx700. Just got it as a frame this week. I couldn't resist taking a pic of the Tx700 with my '78 510 as well.
I haven't decided what to do with it just yet. Do I just get it going with a mix of what ever parts I already have? Or do I stick to a certain group. I have a mix of Suntour Superbe and Pro, no cranks. Suntour would match the Superbe headset already installed. I also have some first generation Dura Ace, again no cranks. I But then again I do also have my eye on a complete first gen Dura Ace black group with sew up wheels.
Or I could go new and utilize my new parts bought for a different build that got scrapped. 2x10 with Sram Apex. I'd have to cold set the rear though.

My 1986 400 Elance. As far as I can tell all the components are all original. It even has some '90s slime tires in "25mm" I think these are the smallest 25's I've seen.
it's a bit lack luster with it being overcast.

^^^^^^ Based on color, graphics and components, that 720 looks like a 1998. One of the last US-built.

Even though you’ve been a member here for 11 years, you’ve only got 2 posts.
I, for one, would love to see your TX900 build!
Reply to a few posts; heck, dig up some old TX900 posts and reply to them.

That looks a lot like my 78 TX700. Same color, same condition- completely different build! I’ve been toying with the idea of refinishing it- IMO, it’s right on the cusp of looking “loved” vs. “ratty.”
If I do get it refinished- I’d go bonkers and get cable guides and rack and canti bosses!

So is it something psychological that people that ordered 77/78 ice blue Treks rode the living **** out of them, or is there something that makes that paint show wear more than other colors?

Good question. I bought this one from the original owner, who rode it a number of times from Bloomington, MN to Dresser, WI and back (62 miles each way).
I'm sure somebody has one in that color with mint paint and graphics. I just haven't seen one.

Good question!
This how I received it. The original owner was shorter (5'-10"?) than I expected for a bike this size. I have big plans for it, as it's one of the few made with Columbus tubing.

I have three vintage Treks that are 22.5" - been thinking of trying a 24" to get the 'classic' look of about 4" of seat post exposed. My 22.5" frames have around 6" of seat post showing.
