Yeah thats the one! I'll be watching it, if anyone bids it up, I'll buy it now. I'll have my LBS look it over to check the bottom bracket too. Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going fixed gear with it!

I got it. I'll stick a picture up when I get it built up. That will probably be a while though so don't hold your breath.

I just bought one of the Titan frames on ebay. It comes without a fork. They are offering a chromed Tange fork which is not threaded.
I want to build the bike using a Super Record group I have, including a Cinelli XA stem. I have never used this tem with other than a C-Record, Record or Super Record threaded headset.
I presume I can simply take the Tange fork to the LBS to have it threaded?? Or can I buy a 1 inch headset that is not threaded that will allow use of the Cinelli stem?? If so what headset is recommended?
Or should I keep shopping for Forks?

I got one of these Titan frames last year:
https://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...chmentid=13294
I built up a fixed gear and I think it is the absolute greatest. I got mine from a guy in Switzerland for $40. Plus $80 to ship
But for $120 it makes a fine ride. In fact I am thinking about getting another one, hopefully SLX and out fitting it with Campy Centaur and carbon fork for a modern race bike...

Nope, things didn't fall through. They must have more frames. I hope they don't have too many though, I like its uniqueness (sp?). It is even nicer looking than it looks in the pic. I'm trying to find a vintage 165 mm crank for it, and I can't dicide what rims and hubs to use (I want to go fixed gear but in a retroish way). Any suggestions would be appriciated.

I received my Titan frame the other day.
It is very nice, workmanship is good and the paint is nice. Although it said in the ebay ad that it is likley SLX, it weighs in as SL, per the Columbus spec sheets.
SL is fine with me.
One point of note, the ebay posting says they believe that the bottom bracket is Italian threaded. It is not, it is English threaded, which in my view is a good thing.
Just be aware of the difference if you intend to buy.

Wasn't me, but I did buy a 2nd frame at the reserve price on April 17th along with a 3T Titan logo stem & bar set. Picked it up at the Post Office today & it has the ridged tubing. Apparently there are at least 3 models being sold. My first frame was Chromed all over with a nice dark blue paint job & 132mm rear dropout spacing, English thread bottom bracket & Columbus dropouts. This one has 126mm campagnolo dropouts and Italian bottom bracket threading. I have some Chorus & Centaur parts but will need to find more over the next few months so I can build these frames up next Winter. Don

I bought one, and finished it off this morning. Rode it a bit and it is exactly what I would have expected.
With the Brooks Saddle and Look pedals - 19 lbs. Very nice ride.

A question to the others who have built one of these up.
I put a Record hub and Regina 6 speed freewheel on the bike, in highest gear the chain is rubbing slightly on the seat stay - not too much, but annoying.
I have moved the hub over on the axle as much as I dare but still rubbing - any suggestions??

So - swallowing hard - I took out the calipers and measured the axle on the wheel I was trying to use - Too SHORT!!! When Did I put a short axle in a hub??!!
Idiot (me!)
Anyway - new wheel selected and tire reglued, now hanging to cure. Problem solved, except of course for operator stupidity!!
The bike is very nice, I was reading the posts in this thread and just couldn't convince myself that these were that good. This built into a lovely bike, light, quick and rides beautifully. That old time geometry, the steel for, lots of rake and a long wheelbase - perfect.
This bike is built with all Super Record, which is fun.
I think I may very well buy another of those frames and keep it for future build - maybe a Suntour Superbe Pro build?
Last thing I need right now of course is to splash out $$ on another frame which I will have to figure out how to hide ( ) ..........

Thank you.
And thank you for some tips on the dimensions of the Titan frames. I just bought one and would wait for it before buying the headset.

I'm thinking about buying one of these frames on Ebay. I'm pretty unknowlegeable about building bikes from scratch but I have friends who can help me.
My question is: How hard is it to find compatible parts for these frames?
Do newer bottom brackets and cranks fit on these frames?
I'm looking at building one into a single speed or fixed gear. Will most fixed hubs fit with this frame?
Any sugestions would be great

126 mm spacing was standard for 6 and seven speed drivetrains, the industry went to 130 mm spacing with the move to 9 and 10 speed drivetrains. Pretty much all bikes nowadays are 130.
Take a look at the description of the frame to see what is says the spacing is. Most true track bikes and hubs are 120 mm spacing - this was also the standard for 5 speed drivetrains.
You can make a very good fixed gear with a 126 mm or a 130 mm spacing it just affects the hub you will have to buy, and whether you will have to put spacers on the hub.

Thanks for this info.
Does it seem like all of the other components are pretty standard sizes? ie.bottom bracket and headset...
I just want to make sure I can easily find not too expensive cpmponents to build this bike up.
Thanks.

The other part you should pay attention to is the bottom bracket - a 68mm bottom bracket is an english threaded bracket, that is the preferred unit.
A 70 mm bottom bracket ( diameter of the shell) is Italian threaded and not as good to have as the english threaded unit. The difference between the two is that with an english threaded unit, the right hand cup threads left-handed, with an Italian threaded bracket the right hand cup is right hand thread, not as desireable.
That said, you will have no trouble finding units to fit either of these sizes at any LBS. Just look carefully at the descriptions of the frames to see what it is you are buying, frame dimensions, dropout spacing, bottom bracket size and threading; etc. There is an interesting mix of frames and dimensions.

Also on the 126mm frames with the Italian BB, some have all smooth tubing (with or without "modern art" paint jobs), while others have the diamond shaped exterior ridge pattern on the top & down tube. From their auction descriptions on e-Bay & checking out this thread, there have been several tube types mentioned: Reynolds 531 Columbus SLX, Chromor, Thron, & Aelle. The finish work & paint on these frames isn't flawless but are a great value for the price compared to a used frame of the same vintage.

The first frame in your list has 130mm rear dropout spacing. The one I bought that was described that way actually measured 132mm & had an English thread Bottom Bracket. The other frame I bought was described as 126mm & did measure 126mm, it has an Italian thread bottom bracket. Pick the one that appeals to you, but I would place the Aelle frame at the bottom of my list. Don

Hey, I'm finally putting parts on my bike and I was wondering, did any of the titans you all have built up need faceing and any other type of machining? I don't have the tools for this and I was wondering if I could get away with leaving the head tube and bottom bracket shell alone.
