Specialized Allez

My neighbor dragged over a red Specialized Allez this afternoon for a quick once-over. It has downtube shifters, Shimano 105 components, and sew-up tires. He's planning to give it to his daughter for a transportation bike. Why the sew-ups on what I thought was a mid-level bike? About how old is the thing? It's in decent shape.

It was more then a mid level bike, it was a racing bike. Is it six speed or seven? 86'-91' Need picture. Don't let him put tubulars on the bike for his daughter, nothing but headaches.

It will be a great riding bike; however, as a regular get-around-with-cargo not so much. It will be a little like riding an indy car in the street.

go rent the movie American Flyers and you'll see that bike a lot.
It would sell for a pretty penny no doubt and then you can buy her something that you would be ok leaving outside the store, scuffed up, worn on. I she really gets into riding then get her something better later on.

I just finished mine. I bought the frame from a forum member, and built it with a 600EX group I got on a 85 Trek. VERY nice riding bike!,,,,BD

The bike is too big for daughter besides being completely unsuited for a 12 year old. After the first flat, that bike will be history. Should have bought a beach cruiser instead. He only paid $70.00 for it. The tires appear to need replacement.

Funny thing is that the neighbor & me aren't on the best of terms. I have a nice rugged Diamondback Sorrento that would be a much better ride. Doubt if he'd make the sensible swap.
