That rack could use some rotation.

What tire do you recommend for the ISO 622 700C Campagnolo Omega Strada Hardox wheel? I like the idea of a big tire on the rear wheel + it needs to live through NYC streets.

Here are some 622 Tires

Hard Case tires are pretty indescructible if that's your main concern. They are heavier and dont feel as lively as lighter weight tires. Maybe Continental Gatorskins? I've used bontrager race lite hard case tires and they are impervious to road hazards although i dont care for the ride as much as a nice light tire

Actually I sold the frameset about a month ago. Still have the rack though!

Good article on tire sizing.

Campagnolo rim = 15mm inner diameter. By the Width Consideration Chart - max tire width = 32mm.

I think the rack was made for a touring bike with very long stays

quite possibly and that's a Team frame which I suppose is an odd thing to hang a rack and fenders on in the first place. Winter Commuter.

I'm gonna try and think of few more critiques of the bike you sold a month ago, Dan.

Italian Bullhorns
The ethnic group normally associated with those handlebars isn't limited to those of Mediterranean extraction; it is a brotherhood of shattered dreams and seething resentment at The Man, who took away the drivers' license after the last "incident." Those, my friend, are the infamous DUI Bars.

Liquid, something doesn't look right with your exploded view. Is that the way you put them back together?

checking the exploded view for cyclone - (nice photo)

End cap - saw tooth - washer with bent hook - flat washer - lever - concave washer (curve fitting into lever) - nut - bracket - nut - concave washer (curve fitting into lever) - lever - flat washer - washer with bent hook - saw tooth - end cap.

That's what I had in the photo as well.

I had to create brackets to get my rear rack to fit right on my touring bike. It's slightly not level, but I really don't want to mess with it more.

I wish you would! At this rate I'm gonna have to start making a list of all the things I'm not gonna do to it.

Say what you will about the way the bar is installed (rotated upwards), that is a really wild handlebar. It's longer, curvier, and deeper than a lauterwasser! I'd like to try it. In fact, Liquidfusion, if you want to trade it for a more usable bar, let me know!

One common, but oft overlooked cause for downtube shifters slipping are the derailleurs. They should move smoothly in and out. When not maintained well, they stiffen up and won't move without a lot of pull on the shifter cable. When they are really stiff, the only thing that moves is the shifter mount.

Disconnect the cables from the derailleurs and see if they move easily by hand. If not, a bit of lube on the hinge pins may help loosening them up.

Thanks. Good thing to keep in mind. Will test it before adding back the shifter cable. Seems to move freely, but lube on the hings pins will be good to do I'm sure.

Right now, as the rear wheel that's on the bike wobbles a bit, I'm going to wait until I get a new tire for the Campagnolo replacement wheel: $24.00 for a 32-622 Pansela // 45.00 for the 28-622 Gatorskin. I'll need to add a new chain (20.00 online) + get tools to install the chain. Need to replace the shifter cable as well. Looks like this will be ready to ride before July!!

- when I rode this bike on a test ride years ago - people just stared at the bars as if it was an alien bike. Kinda fun!! Handles ok. Likes to go for speed...

Good replacement shifter?

Went to LBS and bought a gear shifter cable. Added KoolStop wide rear brakes as well.

Finding the Suntour Cyclone shifter fails to hold steady position when changing gears. Placed above the pump brazon, the bracket can't slide down the tube. Problem: when shifted to the big ("L") low gear, shift lever easily falls back to the small ("H") high gear.

"Low=Slow, High=Spry" Thanks Zaphod for this info!!

Further, after several tries, shifter assembly starts to come apart. Any recomendations for new shifters?

Thanks.

Found photo of Cyclone Suntour Shifter on Ebay

Saw washer with hook - must fit into metal part with nubs that fits onto bracket. Bent hook / washer to fit metal nub. Attached shifter back onto bike. This is key!!!

It Works!!!!!! The Shifter works - holds gear!!!! Yeah!!!

Turned bike upside down (putting support under handlebars to avoid pressure on brakes / cables) and shifted gears turning the wheels. Gears changed and held. Old wheel (Normandy Hub) has bad spoke. Rubs into largest gear. Maybe that's what caused me to crash riding this bike years ago.

Have Campagnolo wheel. Suntour 5 sprocket freewheel. Just need new tire + chain. Making progress!!!!
