That reminds me, I had one of those derailleurs on a clapped out Specialized and you're right about the position.

Looks professional to me. It's even got the crimp on the wire.

Oh! I never saw that little detail. Then, maybe we're not speaking of the same dude? Would you happen to know where I could find that thread? I'm considering a little barter to acquire one of those Mega RD's for a project. The thing looks brand new, and I like the cage design with the large, red jockey wheel on the bottom. Matches my mtn bike! :D

Oh wow! Who in the hell routed the chain through the cage like that? Please don't tell me it was you. And, I'll be floored if it actually worked. :O

That's the way I bought it, it had a few questionable modifications:

Yeah, I had to carry it to the car, it wouldn't even roll. It did clean up nice though:

Oh, and....golly....maybe that hardware store bolt actually has the correct threads for the dropout hanger. Auto part stores do have bolts like that. If he ordered from McMaster-Carr, he might have found one...but he didn't. |

I doubt it: 10mm x 1 is a rare "extra fine" pitch you don't find in most auto parts or hardware stores (certainly not here in FRISCO, anyway!)...the "standard" thread pitch for 10mm is 1.5 and the "fine pitch" (1.25) is actually more common than this bicycle-specific pitch. And all that is a bit of a kludge anyway since a real Campy/Italian hanger is 10M x 26tpi and the 1mm pitch is just a "close enough" fit that works.
