I've found a bike on marktplaats last year, Batavus, really old, with drop bars in the same candy apple colour and some very ornate decals, but with low end components, turkey levers etc, so probably not a professional. It had cottered cranks I believe. I don't know about the tubing, I sold it on before I really got into this C&V thing. I'll be taking a ride with him tomorrow, so I'll check.

I encountered a Batavus roadbike of the same era on a large local classified recently, but it wasn't a Professional. An interesting paint it had!

This is the earliest in my collection >>

1978.

I had an early 70s Type Monte Carlo (not just Monte Carlo, they're different) and I wish now that I'd kept it.

I like the graphics. Overall I think the Gazelle Champion Mondial had the nicer graphics, but some issues of the Batavus do really impress me.

Stunning bike (ebay) and an equally well done auction page. Wonder how much it finally went for.
Mel, any idea what year yours was made?

This style I've a weak spot for >>>

Classic >>

Two upright sitting (Dutchbike?) cyclists, as if cycling against wind.

I have this very early Batavus road frame - it supposedly belonged to Hennes Junkerman himself and its certainly not at all similar to pictures I have seen of Batavus Modell Hennes Junkerman frames. Its built from Reynolds 531 DB tubing. I would guess it dates from c1968.

It is for sale on my website www.hilarystone.com
