It sure does, in spite of all the Peugeot livery all over. That headbadge sure looks like "Carlton", and no Peugeot Lion on it anywhere.

Don't forget that ... that mountain is bare-naked devoid of vegetation outside a scattering of little pants that are no more than two inches tall.... |

Not surprising, considering the very common practice of re-decaling and re-painting custom frames to conform to the official bike sponsor's products. Tom himself had a Masi road frame that he used extensively while competing for the Peugeot team.
Apparently he used a Masi only in 1967 (in TdF 1967 he apparently died riding a Masi: http://www.tomsimpson.nl/myalbum/photo21.html) He rode for Peugeot 1963-1967. The bikes he used from 1963 to 1966 looked to be absolutely stock (apart from wheels sometimes: Campy hubs...). For the rest I agree with these gentlemen: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...n#post10207096 First picture (#1) must be from TdF 1962: first Brit to wear the yellow yersey (riding for Gitane) |
