cobrabyte, where are you? That's not a December melon, is it?

I'm in FL. These melons grew from what was tossed in the compost a few months ago. Moved the seedlings to a sunny area on the side of the house and boom. It is a bit early for them here. They're normally not planted until Dec-Feb so we'll see how they do but they're almost ready to harvest already. Quite by accident.

North end, did you rent a bike in Maui or did you ship one there?

I lived on Oahu for a few years back in the 80's. It was a great place to ride back then. You could go from the mountains to the beach in less than 10 minutes.

I rented from a great little shop called Maui Cyclery. The riding was spectacular

^Those are nice rental bikes. I see they even offer Di2-equipped bikes. Whenever I've looked into renting bikes on vacation, it's mostly been cruisers, hybrids and such.

Love the sand man.

scozim, looking forward to reading your thoughts on fenders.

Had some wet roads the other day but they had mostly dried out by the time I went out. Northbend had written this to me: "fenders set you free... They are great on wet roads. Personally I like bikes with fenders - they look very proper - civilized. What I hope you also discover is that they put you in a different mindset. Absolutely no pressure to go fast when you're rid'n a bike w/fenders. Secret is that you'll be just as fast so if you feel like creep'n up on some racer boys, you'll be able to. You just won't feel compelled to."

I would have to say I agree. When I took the bike out I was still riding my normal winter pace but mentally didn't feel like it was a workout, just a nice ride. Probably more the winter weather but the fenders made me feel like I had no excuse and didn't have to ride faster if I didn't want to. I felt like a kid because, even though most of the roads had dried out, I purposely steered toward the wetter spots (including some smaller puddles) just because I could. :thumb: I used to cringe when it had rained, or was raining, but now I actually look forward to going out and riding. Would have taken the Trek out today but we had snow last night and the roads were really slick so I went with the safety of the indoor trainer.

crossing bridges sucks. It's nice when there's a big wide path though. I get to enjoy taking in the view rather than getting buzzed by folks on their way to the beach!

^ Wow. Nice pathway.

Picked up some things I needed for spinach and ricotta stuffed pasta shells and stopped by the LBS for rim tape.

Where can you get a 2 pound burger on an amazing bun topped with onion rings, A1 sauce, and DEEP FRIED bacon for $9.95? Yup, America baby.

Where can you get a burger with cheese, chocolate sprinkels and banana? Indonesia baby. They also eat their fries at the bk and macD with soft ice cream. Weird.

Not so weird. Wendys french fries dipped in their chocolate shake is one of life's little pleasures. :)

Here's something you can add to that burger....

I can't believe it when I saw it!.....It has real chunks of beef in it! Only in America!
Found it at Target this weekend and I did put some of it in a cheeseburger.......so wrong......but in some way, still so right!
You only live once, so I had to try it out I guess....

The door handles at work look like tiny little drop bars. At 23cm wide, they're very hipster friendly.

Glad you're alive. The Coquihalla is one of the most dangerous roads in BC. I used to live in Vancouver. A guy on my hockey team was crushed in the avalanche tunnel by a tractor trailer in snowy weather. He lived to tell me the story, but that's a scary road, even in good weather.

Sixty Fiver 12-20-12 01:28 PM

Timmy... I would take this over having to deal with rush hour on the I5 because that is really frightening.

Got out of the operating room about 90 minutes ago. Bursa removal on the front of the right knee. Local anesthetic - but needed some extra because initially I could feel the scalpel. After that it was all good. The doc thought 15-20 minutes to remove it and it turned into 35-40. Interesting being awake for it and being a part of the operating room conversation. Time to work on a few projects since the sutures are in for 10 days or so.

Finally have an actual cable cutter, and a book I've been meaning to read :)
