I converted my Raleigh Portage to mtb bars for a more city friendly commute. Thanks to Colonel for the bars and brake levers, and SixtyFiver for the shifters. the grips are VO. The stem is sr and probably needs to be slightly longer.

I fixed up my mtb with the 5 star wheels yesterday.
So after test riding it today, it had a few admirers

In addition to bike-related stuff, I'm also a Formula One nut and collect all sorts of F1 memorabilia (books, posters, photographs, models) in the bargain.

After at least 3 years of looking on Ebay I finally snagged my Holy Grail of F1 memorabilia:

For those of you not in the know, this is a 1/14th scale model of the 1976 Ferrari 312 T2 made by Bburago of Italy. Mint and never played with in a near-mint box, it is also in the first-generation packaging (just as I bought it way back in the day) which was released in mid-1976.

That's a prize, Jeff. I was lucky enough to see these at Long Beach. When we were kids we went to each of the first four or five Formula 1 events - there was a hard-right turn off of Ocean Avenue (no longer part of the course) onto Linden Avenue (a STEEP little hill) and these guys would get airborne along with Alfas, Matra-Gitanes, Lotus 77 (John Player Special)...this was an incredible era for Formula 1 and sports car racing.

As an aside, Mrs. Gomango and I spent the afternoon on our "anniversary trip" to Italy going through the Ferrari museum in Maranello.

It was undergoing improvements at the time, but still we were able to enjoy ourselves.

We did the whole package and visited the Fiorano track and the Viale Enzo Ferrari through the museum's shuttle.

If you decide to ever visit the museum, plan on an entire day.

You would love the models on display DD, as well as countless actual examples of Ferrari racing lore.


FWIW They have an extensive F1 collection as you might expect.

The 1978/79 312 T3/T4 was one of my favs and they had an actual copy on the gallery floor.

I received all the parts in the mail late yesterday, had to make a quick trip to the LBS, and got to work. Oddly enough, everything came together easily. I didn't even get to ride it yet to try out the like-a-goat gearing! Full pics later!

I think I have a model also and a Ferrari cutout print somewhere.

Chris, Grady, pitbull007: well, it appears there are more than a few people here in the know when it comes to the old-school F1. Good to see it! Niki was my first introduction to F1, but I became a hard-core Gilles Villeneuve fan early and for the duration. May 8, 1982 was the worst day of my life :(

For the record, my all-time favorite F1 Ferrari is also the 312 T4 - talk about a completely original design for their first ground-effect car.

And someday I hope to visit Italy again; the Museum and Monza will both figure high on my list :)

Great pickup! I was an Alain Prost fan for a lot of years. Just watched the documentary Senna on Netflix the other day - very well done. Couldn't wait for the Monaco Grand Prix each year on TV when I was growing up.

Jeff - you'll have to join us for the for the Sovren vintage races at Pacific Raceways this summer. They've had a 1971 Jackie Stewart F1 car there the past few years - my absolute favorite to watch the entire weekend.

Here's a bad phone pic of opening day Thursday at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. We had pretty good seats, right behind home plate. The Pawtucket Redsox are Boston's AAA affiliate. It was cold low 40's at game time, we had to wear gloves while we drank our beers.

How small the world is. which one? Have you noted that lovely burgundy "snel" too in the bike rack :P? The oude vieren race was a bloody disappointment for me this year, even though I was at the race for a press job, I'm still inclined to support anything that has something to do with light blue and swan.
