That is a pretty sweet lower headlug. A few years prior, Colnago didn't thin them like that.

I asked for a few extra pictures. That finish just looks to pristine and "new" not to be a repaint/restore. The seller states wheels were clamped lightly, but it wouldn't be too hard to see if there are marks on the dropouts themselves and covered in new paint; I asked for close-up pics to my email to determine that. Also would like to get a closer look at the shape of the lower headlug clover - looks a little later than 73/74; not as "fluffy", but the angle isn't good enough to make a good determination.

I think the seller listed this once before, but I don't recall the price being that high up there. Perhaps he saw the winning bid on the Cinelli Laser and got froggy

I was thinking the same thing. Beautiful frame, but for that starting bid I think the seller should have quite a few more pics, with closeups of all areas of the frame.

'nagos from 1975 or so, and I think this one is a 1975, were not getting clear coat, this one appears too... smooth across the transfers. Not buried in clear but clear coated.

It would be nice to see prices so strong, but there has been another whole bike that was also pretty clean languishing on ebay for between $2,400 and $2,900 so I do not expect this one to "GO".

The paperwork does not impress me, if there was an old photograph showing the bike at a customs clearing house office with customs agents scratching their heads on why an Italian bike was coming to the USA from Germany then I might begin to consider it.

My 73 is in original finish and surprisingly good because it IS covered in clear. But it is obvious that it was done after the fact by the original owner because there are clear drips under the BB and on the chainstays. Maybe it was done with a brush? My 74 looks like MAYBE it has the lightest clear on it but it is hard to tell because the decals are very thin and are of the solvent transfer type so they kind of blend into the finish. You can still see the decal edge though, not all like the buried decals on the one offered for sale. Looks wet sanded...

What about the UPPER head lug, shoreline side at the head tube.... not top drawer to me.

at least you won't be afraid to ride it, lol, it may not be orange, but it comes with wheels and the rest of the bike.

how many people on this forum would seriously spend 5 large to get it? like they said above, i see 3000 are do-able, but 5 is pushing it...

Beautiful, but not as beautiful as my 78 Raleigh professional. Thi is my opinion of course! :-) 5000 would get me a whole lot of other bikes that I can actually ride. Definitely an Italian masterpiece!

when I first looked at it, I was expecting someone to say it was the frame that caused so much controversy on the CR list over the quality of the respray. Doesn't really look right to me.

this frame was listed 6 months ago or so. guess it didn't sell. it is beautiful and my size, but 5G is out of my price range. and i agree with mapleleafs-13, i wouldn't build it and ride it, so why buy it?

It appears to me that the down tube decal on the drive side is ill-fitted. Looks "unlevel", not parallel to the line of the tube.

Wow - I've been called out on the upper head lug.

Hard too tell from the sticky-paint look. But I agree. OTOH, I don't really expect a Colnago to be top drawer top to bottom - though I do appreciate the fact that some poor Colnago minion spent some time in a cupboard with that lower head lug. It is true, though, that a Colnago head lug probably wouldn't have gotten that much attention stylistically circa 1971 - an era of Super we both appreciate. They definitely went down-hill post-71 or so - but I do notice the lug thinning that went into some of the frames from '74 right up until 1980 or so that wasn't evident previously - even though I think the earlier frames had a more attractive overall aesthetic.
