Canada loses a good one

Jack Layton leader of the New democratic party, passed away today, did a lot for the little guy, plus he was a bike rider commuter years ago before it was cool. Take it easy Jack....

My old MP and a stand up guy. He and his wife Olivia had a huge progressive influence on cycling in Toronto.

Jack and I would exchange a few words whilst cycling up Spadina way back in the day. I was a student at U of T and rode along Queen and then up Spadina and, back then, Spadina was an absolute war zone for cyclists so much so that there was an instant bond with anyone crazy enough to attempt it. I'd see him every now and then and he'd nod or smile or exchange a few pleasantries and then we'd jump into the fray.

It is indeed a sad sad day for Canada and Toronto.
