Break out of Brooklyn, and buy it!

This year I've been neglecting my Ironmen in favor of the Trek 760 that fell into my lap last winter ,and my sports tourers. Got on the 85 Silver Bullet last week and haven't been off it since. Nothing like it.

The Trek is really, really nice, Reynolds 531CS all around, with Suntour Superbe Pro, but the Ironman blows it away in terms of how it rides.

Sorry @Robbie Tunes I’m not trying to rub it in about the amazing deals I have been getting the 3 years. I’m really fortunate what the bike gods have been giving me.

Gotta admit I've had a jones on for one of these lately. Probably have better luck finding Bigfoot or a Unicorn. Makes for a good dream, though.

Yep. The 86 was pretty sweet as well. Now we have to put up with seeing dull Matte black everywhere. Uggh!

Yep, I had one in the two-tone grey with the red-shaded lettering. The seller in California wanted $400 for the frameset and $400 for the rest of the group. I opted for the frameset, a 54cm, and tried to "make it fit" by using too long of a stem. I built it with 2x7 tricolor but it just didn't bring out that frame like it could have.

I didn't realize there was only a 1cm difference in top tube length, easily fixed, but no, I over-compensated and ended up selling it. It showed up recently on eBay, all beat up.

Were I granted a do-over......

But Centurion fans, consider parts of the lineup in 1985 and 1986. There is little doubt WSI played to win.

Prestige: 1985 had a 2x6 indexed DA group on a Tange Prestige frame with chrome fork lugs and seat stays.
Equipe: 1985 had a 2x6 friction Campy NR group on a Columbus SL frame with chrome fork l ugs and seat stays.
Ironman: 1985 had a Tange 1 racing bike that was affordable and still has a cult following to this day.
Lemans RS: 1985 had a sport/tourer with eyelets and smooth-as-silk Suntour and smooth-as-silk Suzue hubs

Prestige: 1986 brought the Prestige back. I guess they weren't done kicking Italians around. No sense in having two world-class models.
Facet: 1986 brought out a 7000 aluminum frame stiff enough to rattle your teeth, and a women's team took it to new levels.
Ironman: 1986 brought indexing to the bike, new graphics, and probably caught 2/3 of the folks who couldn't afford '85's top models.
Elite: 1986 brought a "2nd tier" racing bike that many considered superior to the Ironman. Same components, just a Tange 2 frame and 1/2 degree of change.

This is a good example of the overall quality of the Japanese mfgrs during that time period. Heck, my lowly Centurion and Shogun Mixtes are well built, nice riding bikes.

Can you stop right here and let the rest of us catch up? I'm only now sampling the Ironman.
Sales wise, any idea how volume compared--Ironman vs. Prestige?
Btw, Robbie, following your suggestions about how much difference wheels make, so thank you. Night and day! Next step is to recondition those OE Wolbers and see if they are any good. I know I can search but--My plan is to loosen, lube, and tension. If more than one (or two) nipple gives me trouble, I'll replace em all.

60cm parked on the Norfolk VA craigslist. Looks clean. Not much wear on the chainrings.

It is with sad news to tell you all my 86' LeMans RS was stolen out of my garage two weeks ago in SoCal. Serial Number is N6E822. Probably a 64cm frame.

Bike has Shimano 600 brakes, 600 derailleurs, 7 speed hyperglide freewheel, seat bag, chrome water bottle cages, California bike registration sticker on seat tube. Pretty darn clean bike and I did two century rides on it.

It's been two weeks and I can pretty much kiss it goodbye at this point... I would really like to get an 87' Ironman Master teal/white. But since I'm 6'5" finding a 64cm bike is going to be tough.

Sorry to hear about your stolen centurion. Where are you located?
Here's one your Size, it's an expert not a master, it's two tone but not teal and white. Well at least it's the right year and size.

I'm located in Orange County, CA. I have Craigslist email alerts on and I was actually able to recover my stolen Stumpjumper from an unsuspecting buyer on OfferUp as they were loading it in the back of their car!

I do love that purple and yellow scheme too. Interesting this catalog list the LeMans RS frames in inches. Guess mine was a 26.5". That's 67cm. Are metric and imperial frames measured the same?

OK, so we're looking for a 64cm for butterfingarz and a 60cm for seedzbelize.

We are also looking for the stolen Centurion, and if we find that, we get to do two things:
1-return butterfingarz his bike.
2-drag the thief around behind a bike, just like the horse thieves.
(We can't shoot the thief. That would just be wrong.)

There is a 60 on the Norfolk craigslist. I listed the add on the previous page. If someone makes a deal I might be able to facilitate. I am usually within an hour of there once a week.

How about hanging an old Kryptonite lock around his neck, like an albatross? Maybe also use some old top tube cable guides and bolt them to him as earrings and a nose ring.

Point taken.

But if we drag the cretin, we can film it in the old Peckinpah style, have the soundtrack a split second late.

Of course, dragging is integral to the punishment process, à la medieval English custom.
