Sloping Fork Crown
/QUOTE]

Yes, your 87 master has a sloping fork ,however it is not lugged. As far as I know it is joined at the head tube.
Here's an example of Lugged sloping fork crown.

I posted a picture of the fork crown, in my post on the previous page.

In that picture, you can see the brazing material where the crown meets the fork legs.

Interesting. Although I have never checked my 86s for that lug line, I will now. However I will assume you are right and our Ironman bikes 86 classics, and 87 masters are lugged. Very cool. Thanks

Those sloped crowns are internally lugged.

To the untrained eye there's no difference to your original fork. And to (my) eye only a slight difference.
But check out that bike on post #670. Holy Smokes , Pure classic!
Dude whatever, you got a very desirable Ironman.

It would be neat if jerseys existed that matched each of the bikes. Duotones with contrasting sleeves and torsos for the 85-87 bikes and sleeves fading into the torsos for the 88-89 bikes, including the marbled and smoked fades. With the period correct logos and graphics of course!

Thanks again for for the complements Tex . You , and the guys are absolutely right about that chrome chain stay protector , I have one on order . Also I think a chrome bottle cage would look good . I know what you mean about the untrained eye , but as you know us C&V IM riders spot that stuff a mile away .
Cool jersey RT . I like it .

Because the picture is so small, there's no way to tell if it is what he says it is.
Of course, it's a repaint, but there are still ways to tell. If so, it's a decent deal on a frame.
The orange/green decals from Velocals would be retty cool on it.

Any way to get him to post some larger pics?

Is it Miami Vice yellow? I wouldn't want it to clash.

And we'd be glad to have you.

I've got a guy working on it.
Same design, but we may not be able to use Wolber, Cinelli, etc.
We're trying to use the Centurion model logos where we can:
Ironman (in the logo)
Lemans RS
Elite RS
Pro Tour
Semi Pro
Comp TA
Turbo
Prestige
Facet

It all depends on space.

I'd dig a Ironman with some STI's and 700x28 gravel tires on it.

Welcome, and I agree, would be a great gravel bike. Unfortunately, outside of a custom built frame with the clearance you need, just not going to happen. Good idea for sloar to work on. I think it would need a change on the brake bridge, for sure, and some metal removed from the top of the fork. 'd be like a 4x4 Camaro.

Would 25's fit? You can get the gravel kings in 700x25.

I'm running 25's on my '86 Ironman, but they're Conti GranSport Race. Not sure if any extra tread would fit. It's generally the rear caliper that is the issue. The way the bridge is made, the caliper is often closer to the tire than the brake bridge.

An '85 has the clearance to run 28's, with room to spare. Never tried 32's but I was tempted. Ran Vittoria Rando 28's on mine and they were 'true' 28mm tires. I was a fool to sell that bike.

However, I am back in The Fold. Pics to follow next week as my new-to-me silver '86 was just finished and tested today, it's dark now and I'm on the road for a few days. But it's definitely out of the ordinary. Stay tuned!
