Which one? I have a crank arm thread chaser or that haste makes waste?
As for you parts, I don't have any experience with salt corrosion, so I left them alone. (I'm lazy also) Really, I don't have any experience with salt corrosion, so we have a teaching moment here. If you haven't cleaned up the stem and seatpost, maybe you could post some pics. Then you, or rccardr (a master builder) or anyone else that has experience could explain the cleaning process. That would be greatly be appreciated. No hurry on teaching moments. Whenever you have the time.

Speaking of teaching moments, I need to order some decals for some bikes. I am going to bring the bikes to SOTR and beg/grovel for help applying them. I went to Velocals, and there are different types. I don't know which kind to order. There might be others on the thread in the same boat. It would be greatly appreciated if an expert like rccardr or yourself could give the rest of us a course in replacement decals.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Two of very best models of their respective years.
And man what a bargain. I'll go on record as saying if you get one of these and don't like it, Ironman bikes (italian geometry. Japanese technology, American icon-ism ) just aren't your thing.

Arrgghh... seeing those deals on Ironmans elsewhere makes me wanna kick myself again for passing up a couple of deals last year. Most recently was an Ironman identical to my '89 Expert for only $140 from the same seller I bought mine from at $200. Even if it needed more work it would have been a great candidate for a hybrid project I'm considering.
Blasphemy, I know, but I'm liking the current citified hybrid version of my '92 Univega Via Carisma so much, now I want to try the same thing on a lighter weight Ironman frame. Put on some Nitto albatross or North Roads bars, flip 'em to be more aero, switch to bar end shifters, and try it as a faux-path racer.
The only problem with the Univega is, at 30 lbs, it really needs the 12-32 cassette and 30/40/50 triple just to slog up some short, steep local hills. At just 5 lbs lighter the Ironman feels much lighter and wouldn't really need the tractor gears.
Then I could finish morphing the Univega into an errand bike, and get rid of my current 40 lb behemoth errand bike (doesn't really fit me anyway, frame reach is too small and the 170mm cranks feel odd). And I'd have a citified Ironman for rides when my neck says no to drop bars.
Now I just need to persuade my body to get ready for a ride today on the Expert with new tires and different saddle. It's just chilly enough to make it unpleasant. Maybe just a short ride around the neighborhood...

In Cen-Tex it was cold and Windy on my Miami Vice shake down ride of 17 miles after installing the oem 105 components
Those are 7 speed tri color shifters.
. A 5 mile stretch felt like it took 30 minutes to complete. In spite of that I felt smooth and strong. I need to adjust the front derailleur as it hesitated to shift to the smaller chainring (normally it would shift incredibly smoothly). Along with the DA 7 speed downtube shifters it has a DA 13-26 freewheel. Which is great considering it's my heaviest Ironman (especially when climbing).
@canklecat here's a pic of what I have for you so far. I'm somewhat patiently waiting to get a dura ace front and rear derailleur then you get the the 600 tricolor derailleurs too. I'm trying to turn your expert into a master. You're the only person who's post are longer than mine so I'm trying to keep you going.

The chilly wind wasn't too bad, I was dressed so warmly even my gloves were sweaty. But the mountain cedar and allergens are killin' me. And pretty much everybody I know. Fortunately my albuterol inhalers are free from the VA. Look out, Froome, I'm coming for your KOMs.

I may be joining the club. Going to look at a '89 tomorrow. It's been for sale forever. I know this crankset is not original, can anyone identify it and let me know what the quality is ?? Also any help on what the bar cons might be would be helpful. If anyone is interested in the tri bars and shifters, let me know.
It was obviously turned into a tri-bike which I will change. No decent overall pics - but I'll get some if the frame checks out and I buy it

That's a '89 Expert. It looks like in good overall condition. Like you pointed out the crankset is not original. Since the GPX group is suntour perhaps the bar end shifters are too. BTW those gear cables are way too long but since your not keeping the tri bars I guess it doesn't matter. What's the asking price?

The crank has letters on it. I can't make it out, though. Could be Shimano.

If the paint is in good shape I'm taking it. For $100 I can't go wrong. I just don't want that $100 to become $400 at the drop of a hat

It's all about the paint guys. I am always leery when there aren't clear full view pics. I could always powder coat, but that's when the price starts going up in big chunks.
On a side note, still waiting on a Schwinn 434 that I mentioned before that looked like it was dragged thru the gravel. Hoping to get that for a price that allows a powder coat. For some weird reason I want one
I'll find out about the Ironman tomorrow.

Death fork? Naaaah!!
Crank looks like a 300 series Exage, but I've never seen one in black. I buy a lot of them just to get the 40t 130bcd Biopace chain ring often found on them.
