Just what did I buy?
A few years ago, a French seller offered some NOS Lejeune markings. Plain white block lettering. I snagged them and have held onto them since. You can see in the scan that there is a grid on the sheet. I planned to use them on a new acquisition and found that the markings did not remain on the bike when I attempted to remove the clear. I had assumed that the grid was to assure location and would not remain on the frame, leaving the lettering. But even the lettering comes up. Just what is this? Is one supposed to trim away all the clear? Seems a major PITA to me.

Hi Lynn!
The grid looks like it is underneath the letters. If so, it might have been part of a two-stage deal. In the 1980s, I used vinyl decals which required placing a sheet of paper coated with a tacky glue on the face of the decal before peeling off the backing. The backing would be removed, leaving the elements of the decal in the same relationship on the paper in reverse. I would apply the whole thing, knit down the decal, then remove the paper, whose glue was less adhesive than the decal's glue. What you have may be some variant of this system.

On a happier note, I made an attempt to reproduce the headbadge decal and was rather successful using a wet transfer. It probably will fade over time and not stand up to much abuse, but this is not going to be a show bike, although it will be a good looker.
