Shimano 600 Uniglide Help
Sorry if this has been asked before!
I need a 7spd uniglide cassette for my 600 hub. I've found one on ebay for $115. I don't want to spend that much money. I can get a 6spd uniglide cassette for $60 and a uniglide cog for $15. My question is...if i put the 6spd cassette and extra cog on my hub will it work ok? Is there maybe different spacing between the cogs on a 6spd and 7spd? Hopefully this makes some sense.
Thanks, Joe

I would get rid of the Uniglide and replace it with a Hyperglide body. Easy to do, and your options will open up.

Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.
Is this to replace a worn 7-spd uniglide cassette, or to get a 600 freehub into service?
If the latter, I'm with due route, best time to upgrade the body with one that fits hyperglide cassettes. The are relatively cheap on ebay, or dirt cheap when rummaged for in parts boxes at LBS's and co-ops. Look for old 7-spd hubs, you'll probably find one of those bodies that can accommodate both types of cassettes.
And yes, spacing is different between 6 and 7 speeds. Can't do what you suggested. You'd need the 7-spd spacers from a Uniglide 7.
Less costly solution is to swap bodies to take advantage of HG, cheaper broader selection of cassettes, and much better shifting performance.

Here is a 14-21 for $40 https://loosescrews.com/index.cgi?c=C...d=393011226258
Could the OP use the cogs from a 7spd with his old 6spd spacers?
the Sheldon body swap is not as easy as it seems. IMHO if you do this your better off buying a cheap HG from ebay and harvesting the axle, cone and body that way.

Alright, I'm MasterJoda. After I started this thread my account froze. Don't know what happened. Oh well, I've been a member since late 2009 and only have 21 posts so maybe this is a good time to start over and become more involved. I'm def gonna stick with the star wars themed names though.
RobbieTunes, please e-mail me at( barker.joe at gmail.com ).
And thanks everyone for the info on the UG stuff. I am planning on going with indexed shifters
FWI this is for a Bianchi Nuovo Racing.

Thanks, I'm really excited about this. First time I've built a bike from just a frame. Trying to make it nice but not put too much money in it. I was trying to go with all shimano 600 stuff but already have a dura ace 7400 RD and front hub so I'm gonna use those till I need them for something else. Also used a Cinelli stem.
