Anyone want to comment on damage?

I just got this in the mail. Needless to say Im upset. The box is fine and judging by the rust this is existing damage.

Am I correct in thinking that this was existing damage?

Youch. Yeah, I'm guessing that isn't exactly new.

If the box is fine... very unlikely damage was done in shipping. Looks like old damage to me. Where did you buy the frame? Was it insured? If its ebay or paypal file a dispute and you'll get you money back.

Yeah there's no way that could have happened during shipping without visible damage to the box, also the rust indicates that it is older.

Bikes: See sig

Is that just a scrape or is it a dent / bend?? From only that one photo, that looks pretty serious.

edit: ah, I see the bend now. Yeah, no way that happened in shipping.

Was this via ebay?

The shape of the fold on the top tube points towards a head-on crash. Did you get the fork too? If so, is it straight (and original).
I'm +1 on old damage obviously.

Bikes: Upright and Recumbent....too many to list, mostly Vintage.

Textbook bent headtube.

Might be able to get some satisfaction from someone with a Park HT-1 ... a couple of forum members have those things.

Honestly though I'd just return to sender if it were me.

Damage is old given the patina on the metal surface. It's also probably not terribly old given the paint surrounding it is in decent shape and the patina is fairly light. Looks like the seller crashed the bike, removed the parts and sold it immediately.

Asking for people to comment here? That's like asking who wants coffee at an AA meeting.

I've wrecked and done exactly the same damage to a bike. Toast indeed.

Seriously, I hope you can get your money back. Stinks.....

I agree with everyone, that damage was there already! I live in Florida, but that is not my frame! :-) My frames are professionally packaged by me, as I have seen the less than perfect job done at the lbs. Hopefully you'll be able to resolve this favorably!
