...Somebody nicked my Moulton. Nothing else to say really, these things happen.http://absterabbi.files.wordpress.co...qlr0o1_500.gif

SteveSGP 11-20-11 03:36 PM

That's horrible :(

rhm 11-20-11 03:39 PM

My condolences, I am very sorry indeed to hear that. I just rode my Moulton 4-speed to the grocery store yesterday, and worried about it while I was shopping. I hope yours didn't/doesn't end up at the bottom of the Oude Rijn.

Mercian Rider 11-20-11 03:42 PM

Very sorry.

Bike thefts are way up in my area, which I think reflects the growing popularity of bicycling.

Drillium Dude 11-20-11 03:52 PM

Oh, man - my sincerest condolences. I know that feeling three times over and hope I never do again.

we need to make a Boomerang system for bikes, lol... they have it in cars

rootboy 11-20-11 03:56 PM

May a curse fall upon him and his yarbles drop off.

+1 on the yarbles.:thumb:

cudak888 11-20-11 04:06 PM

Dave or Alex? If the former, you'll find it abandoned at a bike shop a week later, after the thief attempts to get tires for it.

That video astounds me. Count 'em. Four, maybe up to six police cruisers. A helicopter. All for a ..uh... full suspension mountain bike.
The Sacramento police budget must be overflowing. Your tax dollars at "work" California. Weird.

Drillium Dude 11-20-11 04:20 PM

^ 100% agree. I mean, I hate bike thieves but that was a bit much, wasn't it?

DD

Italuminium 11-20-11 04:42 PM

Thanks, all.

Sadly the tires were in great shape. Anyway, back to the interwebs on the look-out for a worthy successor as campus cruiser!

I think it was a slow day and the word got out about the :D
cool techno bike sting, which always piques some interest.

A lot of the cars here are solo units, so in an event there
are always multiple responses, simply to provide personnel.

They finally busted the guy using the bike as a getaway:eek:
vehicle for a home buglary, so it was not a complete waste.

Just in case you are curious, it has not affected the bicycle
theft rate here in any discernible way.:o If anything, thefts
are up this year.

KonAaron Snake 11-20-11 06:21 PM

I'm really sorry ital...I hope the saddle breaks off on him and he gets some seatpost fun.

Displacement 11-20-11 06:25 PM

Only experience with bike theft was in college. At USC, if a bike lasted you the whole school year you were doing OK. I had a bike last 2.5 years, gloated about it, and immediately had that one, the next one, and another stolen within 2 months.

Not a good feeling, even when it happens to cheapo stuff. I'm sorry for your Moulton

LesterOfPuppets 11-20-11 06:37 PM

I'm all for more stings. I noticed they charged him with grand theft, yowza! I guess it only takes $950 to make it a grand theft in CA, though. Leaves the DA with the option to go for a felony.

Moulton loss is a sad occasion. I hope you score a good replacement, Italuminium, or maybe actually recover it. I recovered one of my bikes once.

Wino Ryder 11-20-11 07:05 PM

Sorry for your loss. :(

....but the "I hope my bike takes you straight to hell."

:roflmao:

RobbieTunes 11-20-11 08:46 PM

I'm sorry for your loss.
I approve of violence in this situation.
I don't care if it "solves anything" or not.
It satisfies my need for resolution.

mattk42 11-20-11 09:25 PM

I'm pretty sure the guy that was arrested in the youtube video was breaking into houses after he stole the bike. So, that's why they had so many units after him.

I'm paranoid about not getting my bike stolen. Haven't had it happen yet, but I am pretty young in my bicycling life, so there's still plenty of time for it to happen to me.

pullup 11-21-11 12:44 AM

That's really annoying Ital :(

I just saw a 1964 Moulton offered in Marktplaats yesterday and had to check if it was yours :D but it is in a different colour.

The guy is asking for 165 euro, is that a reasonable price for this type of bike ?

No, it's not mine, I saw that one too. 165 is reasonable, I paid a bit less for mine but it was missing the headlight and had a respray once.

Oh, and Aaron, the seat was loose so some dilligence was required in riding it... I hope the thief found that out the hard way!

WNG 11-21-11 04:22 AM

Sorry to read about the theft. Really frustrating...I know that feeling. :(

Or it reflects the state of the economy and people's desparation as they look for stuff to steal and sell or for stuff to ride to work because their car got repossessed (probably too many s's there) .

Sorry to hear about the OP's bike loss.

Pompiere 11-21-11 10:45 AM

Sorry about the theft. I missed the difference in slang, as I saw "nicked" and thought paint chip, instead of theft.
I had a Fuji stolen twice. I got it back the first time after seeing the guy riding it on the navy base. I convinced him that I had the receipt with the serial number and he had better give it back. After he did and I put it back in my room, I went and got the base cops and ID'd the guy. He was carrying weed, so he got in even more trouble and ended up getting discharged. The second time was on a different base and it was just gone without a trace. It was in a rack full of bikes, but there must have been something that made mine an easier target. When I got a new bike, I stored it on the ship.

lotek 11-21-11 03:29 PM

sorry bout the theft, Hopefully the seat detached itself from the seatpost and the
perpetrator had an extremely painful time with it.

Doesn't anyone get out of the way of police cars with lights and sirens in
California?
