Maruishi Record
A new toy, probably my Christmas present for this year.

Don't you love it when Santa puts you on the "good" list
even when you know you don't deserve it?
I figure early 80's, just before Japanese production bikes
became an unaffordable luxury item for us in the USofA
and production moved elsewhere. Looks a lot like the cover
photo in Auchen's link to the Maruishi brochure here:
https://www-hsc.usc.edu/~rpinder/Maruishi.pdf
I'm hopeful it will be as pleasant to ride as this one, which
I very much enjoy:

Same tubing (Ishiwata 022), similar era and geometry...hope
springs eternal in the world of classic and vintage.

The referenced catalog is from 1984 and the pictured bicycle is actually a Competiton with SunTour Superbe components. That year the Record came only in blue and had a contrasting head tube. Assuming the SIS components are not an upgrade, it should be 1986 or 1987. The serial number may narrow that down.

Congrats 3alarmer - I think you'll be very impressed by those gold Kangaroos!
(I think these higher end 80's Maruishi bikes vie with the ne plus ultra of Japanese road bikes.)

T-Mar,
How do you know all this stuff?
Thanks once again for the input. I cannot find Jack
for a serial number, so maybe on the steerer tube?
All the usual suspects appear to be unstamped.
