Don't bother.
Although I don't understand why people who want this look don't just buy a new (probably cheaper) steel track frame, from Bikes Direct or somewhere like that. |
I guess the impact that such guys have on the supply of lower-tier vintage bicycles is pretty minimal, compared to how many tons of old bikes get gathered up and smelted down every day.
IMHO, the real harm done is to people who buy those swugly conversions, never knowing how nice they could look and ride unDrewed. They might never enjoy a nice vintage bike. |
I'm not overly concerned about it, even though I find the end result repulsive; at least some kid is riding a bike who likely wouldn't be caught dead on the stock version. I bet there is a similar thread on some car-restorers' forum on classics v. ratrods.

There might be a huge supply of C&V gas pipe at present so it won't make much difference to future C&V'ers - BUT think the unthinkable - when they are all drewed up, there will only be our collections left - can you trust your kids/ grandchildren to know that your 'old bike in the garage' wouldn't be better "updated"???
Oh dear, I think I better go and lie down now - NURSE! |
I agree with most of you, the bikes he is hacking up at the moment are not anything special by any means, and I dont much care if he re purposes them as he sees fit but there is always the potential Drew gets ahold of a nice bike and treats it the same way...thats what im scared of

Doesn't matter. I'll never sell it; I'm saving it for the zombie apocalypse. When the cockroaches are dead, the Varsity will still be rollin'.

There is a difference of opinion on what constitutes drewing however. Now if someone could explain "Fred" I'd be obliged. I don't understand the origin, and am unsure of the meaning -(Not certain if it refers to a high-stylin' roadie on a $9k CF bike, or an old codger on a rusty old Columbia.) |
Both, actually, auchen. Fred referred to a particular individual who raced on a normal-ish bike and wore non-cycling clothes, and proceeded to do quite well in races. Fred ended up being a disparaging name for someone who doesn't match his bike, either in the original sense (a "sleeper"), or in the opposite sense (someone with all the fancy equipment and lycra, but is really slow).
EDIT: There's a Wiki on it and I'm not exactly correct, but the idea is there. |
