Ms Cansino

the thread has had several images of her already, some more than once

came across this one and thought to add it in

always a bit sad for me to see images of her knowing how her last chapter unfolded...

One of the most beautiful women of her time!
Many people did not even know that Rita Hayworth was Latina..... Her real name was Margarita Carmen Cansino.
Hollywood anglcized her with her showbiz surname "Hayworth" and dyed her hair from black to red..
Sadly, it was a common practice by the industry, back then.

Some other Latino stars include Anthony Quinn (Mexico), Raquel Welch (Bolivia) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Argentina. As a colorful note, Anya was described by Variety as a "woman of color", despite she identifies herself as a white Latina. She is also bilingual in Spanish and English.

Ms. Hayworth also endured painful electrolysis to raise her hairline for a more “Anglo” appearance. The Whitewashing of one’s Latino heritage also crossed into the Sporting world. Ted Williams of Red Sox fame was also Latino. A similar thing seemed to occur in the UK where Actors minimized their Indian heritage and were groomed into a more English pedigree, Many know that Emilia Clarke and Ben Kingsley have Indian heritage, but Boris Karloff and Sir Roger Moore also had Indian Heritage.

Fun Fact:
Anthony Quinn's grandfather was an Irish immigrant to Mexico, married a Mexican women, so his Dad was half Irish half Mexican, his Mom was Mexican. I had always assumed that his name, Quinn, was an Americanized version of Quintero or Quintana.
One of his books "The Original Sin-A Self Portrait" is a very good read, He lived a fascinating life.

I heard that his real name was Reina, Spanish for Queen, but it was changed to Quinn. But I suspect the Mexican guy who told me that just invented it...

one of the fascinating things about him to me from a casting standpoint is the way Hollywood perceived him as a sort of "universal ethnic"

have seen films where he portrayed characters who were Romanian, Mexican, Irish, Panamanian, Greek & Arab

just think...if "the actin' thing" had not worked out he would have had a career as an architect

He would have made a great Architect! With the tough looks and his booming voice, he would have easily kept all the consultants and contractors in line,...... and maybe even most clients/owners of his projects!:D

There is a reason why I keep checking the Celebrities thread. And it has not much to do with bicycles.

Vintage_Cyclist 08-12-24 07:24 PM

Mark Knopfler's bicycle riding him.

H did a marvelous job of portraying the main Innuit (aka Eskimo - a derogatory term btw) protagonist in the film THE SAVAGE INNOCENTS.

Cheers
