I am old enough to think I recall they were valves in the UK or thermionic valves to be exact.

So I think its interesting he has a single speed with brake levers but no brakes or cables - but he does have a bell.....better put that helmet on!

Wondering that too. Looks like an awfully nice bike. I note I misspelled her name. Only thing I know about her is that she married some singer and that she has a nice .....uh .... bike.

I guess I really am a C&V person--except for Oona Chaplin, I've never heard of any of those people. Or Ziyi Zhang or the yellow-shirted fixie guy, for that matter.

Or am I just clueless?

nlerner 01-03-17 07:25 AM

Jon, you've at least recognized one more celebrity than I have. I'm still trying to catch up on the '90s.

Sure, lots of celebrities posing on bicycles but how many of them operated an LBS?

I too am sadly out of touch with pop culture.

I've had to google most of these people, but I enjoy doing that, especially looking at the pretty young women.

In the clueless club or just don't pay much attention to these pop up stars I guess.

Maybe it is just me tired auld eyes :50: but the writing "LAUREL & HARDY BICYCLES" appears to be on a different plane than that of the other writing/signs in the window. Compare it for instance to the "BURGLAR ALARMS" sign in the lower left corner. Wonder if it was done with a matte.

Perhaps our photographic experts can comment...

It appears to be a set from a movie... a war propaganda film at that.

Yes, it's a set from Air Raid Wardens but it's not a war propaganda film.

Interesting. I go through Columbus Circle a fair bit to "round the corner" toward the UWS from Midtown. I never pay attention to anyone else. Instead, I look for holes in traffic to scoot through before they collapse while making sure the cops aren't watching.

I would never recognize the other two, but I might recognize Woody Harrelson

TimmyT, those were not my sightings, but I do see a lot of celebrities here in NYC, especially in my neighborhood. But you got me thinking: I don't think I've noticed any celebrities while I'm on MY bike.

Last night, I saw Nick Nolte park his Porsche around the corner from my home. I have no idea if he rides a bike.

Yeah, I got that. I was just commenting on Columbus Circle. I know that Anderson Cooper lives there and is seen a fair bit.

Yeah, I don't think I've noticed anyone in particular, ever. Every now and then, I'll look at someone like, "I know that person." I have no idea who it is.

noglider 01-03-17 06:14 PM

Eventually, I figure them out. On a cold night in January last year, a woman stopped me to pet my greyhound and tell me how much she loved her. As I looked at her face, I was trying to remember where I knew her from. It wasn't until I got home that I realized it was Sandra Bullock.

TimmyT 01-03-17 07:05 PM

^ Ha! She's awesome.

Greyhounds are pretty adorable. Sandy ain't bad herself.

Unfortunately no photos of him on a bicycle, but he was a semi-regular customer at the bike shop where I worked in the '80's.

RIP, William Christopher.

I like that one with Munster gramps. Being its mostly a vintage theme forum, need more like it. Cool bike -note the cable routing front of bars ; -)

Someone named Susan Fleming who's quite cheery in delivering gifts during Christmas.
