She would've been quite something if alive today and riding the city bike lanes.

I guess the candy stripes on the dress are kinda cycling specific... :) |
I watched "The Quiet Man" with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara last night. Lots of old bicycles.

Leonardo DiCaprio just passed me in the street a few minutes ago, but he was walking, not riding a bike. This is the second time I've seen him, as he is nearby. I didn't take his picture.

Happy 95th birthday to Doris Day, who is a true celebrity and cycling advocate. You can find dozens of photos of Miss Day on bicycles because she rode bicycles everyday, for health and running errands. She wasn't like most celebrities who threw a leg over a saddle only for publicity pictures. I recall a charity fashion show that she did in the early 1970s, where instead of walking down a runway, she entered the stage on a 1890s bicycle (or tricycle or quadricycle), stopped to pose, then rode off. She had a different bicycle for each outfit and there may have been about ten or twelve in total.
Here's a picture of Miss day, circa 1950 with her son, Terry Melcher, who grew up to become a prominent producer with Columbia Records. He produced records for the Mamas & Papas, Beach Boys, Glen Campbell and several others. Most importantly, he was instrumental in the early success of the Byrds, helping them develop their folk rock sound and producing their first two albums. Melcher was also the original, intended target in the Manson-Tate murders. |
T-Mar, I had no idea. Not only was she a cyclist, she was a bike collector. Thanks for the history.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. Modi, of the BJP party.
https://sites.google.com/site/airpor...=179&width=200 He has suggested taking one day a week to promote bicycling and his supporters have engaged in various types of cycling events to support him. Some of his cabinet ministers and BJP lawmakers have taken to riding bicycles to parliament and have been dubbed the "Bicycle Boys" by India media. His main rival, Akhilesh Yadav, of the SP party, is not outdone on bicycles, however. http://uttarhamara.com/wp-content/up...2gUwAI4T_4.jpg The SP party routinely engages in mass cycling campaign events. http://i.ndtvimg.com/i/2017-01/akhil...1483324238.jpg And the SP party symbol IS a bicycle. http://im.rediff.com/news/2012/feb/18slde1.jpg |

https://www.google.com/search?q=the+...w=1366&bih=662 There is a moment where he says something like "I don't want to fight. Hell no , I don't want to fight." followed by a big WHAM. ;) :fight: (paraphrasing as have not seen it in forty-five years) ----- |
