They're not as hard to ride as they look. The big wheel makes a gyroscopic force that makes staying up almost automatic. I tried one once. The hard part was getting down.

If I had to bet I'd side with Thumpism. Firstly the bottom of the wheels (where fixtures might be placed) are cropped from the photo.

Ahh, well, my faith in humankind is bolstered. I'm a fan of hers anyway, so if she was actually riding, not just posing, for that photo, that's great!

Marilyn did not have to worry as there surely was a bunch of guys just off camera, ready to catch her if she falls off the bike....
I'd be in the front of the line to sign up for that job if I was around' back then.....:D |

I don't have any pictures, but I do know Bill Walton was and probably is devoted cyclist. I read a few months ago (RBA?) in a short interview, that while at UCLA he had road bike custom made for him with something like a 71 frame. And the lore is that during his tenure here in Portland, when he wasn't recovering from some injury, he also rode fairly regularly.

Wow, steel Colnago. Now I know why I like Dire Straits.

http://www.emovieposter.com/images/m..._NG06377_B.jpg Man, I used to love the carry on movies back in the day. That one just wasn't the same without Sid James though. |
