Anyone have an idea what the R derailluer cable pull ratio was for suntour? Konaron- Interesting that you are getting brake shudder with V-brakes, usual reason for the shudder is blamed on cable arrangement of cantilevers (flexing fork changes cable tension) which V-brakes are immune to. Clean the rims and pads, play with the pad toe angle and you can probably elimate the shudder.
Spongey lever feel = excessive amount of mechanical leverage of the system (and/or overly flexible brake caliper arms). Switching to V-brakes with shorter arms may help stiffen up the lever feel.

The shifters are Suntour Commands and are separate from the brake lever...they were Suntour's attempt to compete with STI in the early 90s and it didn't take off. They're the first time I've used them so I need more time to pass judgement. So far I like them a LOT...you can shift from the drops, flats OR hoods. They aren't as smooth or precise as STI, but I'm also not running them with the Suntour derailleur/freewheel they were designed for. That's probably affecting performance (they do work quite well as is).

Much obliged Aaron! Might as well get some of those Tektro's myself. The Suntour Command shifters look interesting but probably harder to find over here so might start off with the idea of barcons or trigger shift and see what develops! Anyhow your bike is brilliant!

You could always have your US friends source you a pair...it wouldn't be that difficult. Some other options you might want to check out are Kelly take offs and Paul thumbies. There is also a recent thread about some brake levers with a thumb shifter attached - they're very cool.

Nice build, Aaron. My son was just yesterday hinting at buying me a set of studded snow tires for Christmas, and I had to reluctantly tell him no. I just can't justify that purchase for the amount of use I'd get around here (Detroit area) where the snow just doesn't last. I'm curious, though -- my son said his reading so far indicated that studded tires were available only in the 26" diameter. Is this true? Because I don't own any MTB's, just road bikes and three-speeds.
