Madness. Sad thing is, people on local vending sites have been doing their homework. Frequently you see lines like "this will bring 800€ in the us or a million gazillion in Japan" in ads. F that, sell it on the bay if you want big money. Btw there's a 500 km zieleman with all original parts on marktplaats now marty, with exactly that line in the ad:)

Wow bidding started at $100. I wonder if the seller expected this.

Yup that's the one. I'd be mine already if I wasn't so stone ass broke.

51 year old derailleur, NOS.
Highly collectible in any condition.
While I'll never pay that much I can see how someone would.
I'll stick to my campy stuff:

C'mon Marty. Campy, really? Gimme Sturmey!! :P (I hope it is permissable to be irreverent with an admin. If it isn't OK, I guess you guys may not see any posts from me for a few days. ;))

I've got some simplex deraillers, maybe I'm rich? Mine are plastic, but they're cracked.

:D that sure was a silly line. I saw it to.
Funny thing was there were two bidders in one day offering about 800 but they seem to have backed down.

Yeah, not too unreasonable. You can't get those prices on marktplaats, because the dutch mentality is that marktplaats should always be a cheaper alternative to anything store-bought.

BTW, the bike is the perfect colour for me too, how much do kidneys go for these days?

A bit of polish, it'll look like new.

I resemble that remark :D

Is it any stranger to pay over $3000 for an old RD than to pay $millions for some paint on a canvas? At least you can both look at and use the RD. Just the other day a photograph by Andreas Gursky sold for $4,338,500...

You could say that we are lucky to have such comparatively cheap tastes :D

Got exactly the same (except used, not NOS) RD on my '68 PX10 (along with matching "wheat sheaf" DT shifters. Paid $75 for the whole bike in 1976, so I don't get the price paid for the RD...It shifts well, but no better than a Supper LJ or even an SX410...

I recall that Sixtyfiver has a 1957 Peugot with one of these.
