Got my Dad a C&V for Christmas.
I am sure that some will argue that it is not a C but only a V, if you get my drift.
My dad rode my old bianchi a while back and metioned that he wanted ot get an old road bike for longer rides so he didn't always have to ride his heavy Hybrid with a suspension fork. So... this was my answer.
It is a 1983 Schwinn Le Tour. I know it is a low end model from '83, but it rides great and is in great shape. The paint looks pretty good with only a few nicks and scratches (anybody know a good touch up paint?). I cleaned up the wheels a bit, cleaned and lubed the chain, disassembles the rear derailleur and cleaned and lubed. It will need new tires soon and I plan on putting new cables on it as well. From what I here, 1983 was a good year becaus eof the full 4130 chrome frame. I paid $75 and think I got a pretty good deal. Vintage steel goes for a premium around here when marketed well.
Here are some pics. What are your opinions.

Love it, hope someone knows about the touch up paint, I don't think it's as bottom of the barrel as you believe, I had a Schwinn Le Tour IV.. now that's bottom of the freaking barrel. And gratz to your dad on his future score.

If your dad doesn't like it I will take it...looks like my size
I think that was a very good score for $75. FWIW I am still in the helping the kids out stage of life, they are doing well on their own, but dear old dad is still building them bikes.

Casey you are a fine PK's son! That bike is a fantastic ride for your father. Let him know it can be a great stress reliever from the challenges of ministry. I was able to do a 20 mile ride late yesterday afternoon. It was a great way to prepare for the coming weekend! Invite him to visit NH in the summer and I will introduce him to hills!

Casey Jones, That looks like a great ride. Your father will be happy. He can upgrade once he decides he wants to ride it, a lot.
For touch up, I recently went to the beauty aisle of the drug store: lots of colors and lots of metallics. You will easily find something there. Otherwise, some people like to mix testor's hobby paint. With the loss of hobby shops, these are tougher to find ... maybe a craft store would carry them?

Awesome gift! He'll love it, not too new-fangled, and way faster than the hybrid with 4130 frame. Excellent Job.

I think your dad is going to love it. There's nothing like going from a big, heavy hybrid, with suspension fork and big tires to a very nice and nimble road bike. And for $75, I think you got a very good deal!

The Super LeTours were made in Japan. At this time, the regular LeTours were made in Chicago and beginning in 1985ish, Mississippi. Eventually production was contracted out again to Asia, but not until the 1990s.

True about the hobby stores, I can locate testors in the craft stores though. Good lead on the beauty aisle, I will have give them a look for the Raleigh copper bronze color I need.
Your father is going to be pleased and 75 is a good price !
