Has anyone ever heard of a Schwinn Spartan from 1975????

Someone is telling me that they have a Schwinn Spartan and they bought it new in 1975. I have never heard of this. Did they make these? He says its a ten speed style with skinny tires and drop bars. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Not heard of a Schwinn Spartan. Not listed in the 1975 catalog. Likely is a Varsity. Schwinn made about a million of them in 1975. Or it could be a Sprint.

I am thinking it may be a sportabout. He said it was very rare and they did not make very many. I will find out tomorrow when I go check it out.

There was a discount dept. store, bottom end, 70's bicycle sold as a "Spartan", but not made by Schwinn.

As I run a popular vintage Schwinn web site, I can attest to the fact on how many emails I receive with a photo of some old "Schwinn" that is actually a Huffy, or Sears, or......

Memories are notoriously unreliable. Perhaps the seller is "misremembering" the name and some of the details. Can't tell you how many times I have asked questions of a seller over the phone only to get dead silence or "I'll check" as an answer. They got a bike at some point, never rode it and now they don't care to keep tripping over it.

Here's a Spartan I found by googling, and it looks like a low end department store bike. It's definitely not a Schwinn.

To some people, every bike is a Schwinn. Kind of like Kleenex.

Well if it's a Spartan it's not a Schwinn. I have seen several Spartans over ther years they are typically low end department store level bikes. Some Schwinn dealerships sold them as a cheap entry level bike in the 70's but they are not Schwinns. They where basically the cheapest bike on the floor of dealerships that offered a full line of bikes.
