Classy looking triple crankset that won't break the bank?

Hi guys,
Looking for a triple crankset. I've seen the IRD and VO ones but man!!! Yikes. The newer ones are nice but it'll make vintage bikes look weird. Anyone else seen good looking classic looking triple cranksets?

There's the Sugino XD600 triple crankset for $110.

Nothing does it for me like the 7803 triple. I'm nearly done with this build and can't wait to take her out and see if she shifts as well as the 7800 double.

On a new bike they look great. I do like the straight arm look though.

Cap... I see some beautiful Stronglight triples, frequently on eBay. Usually between $50 ans $75 unless they are mint and rare. BIS drillium is gorgeous on nearly anything vintage.

I've seen Stronglight ones but I don't have a crank extractor for them

They get my vote! And a vintage triple in good shape can be had for about $100 on eBay.

The stronglight triples usually fetch more than the TA triples. I don't think I've ever seen a Stronglight triple go for under $100 unless really beat.

You have a point. I got the one above for $75.00, but that might not be common, and it is a user, not a showpiece. On the other hand, the Stronglights arguably perform better and are more rigid when they have larger BCD... Both are good looking on a vintage build.
I'd go with either (and have) depending on what is available.

Harris and Velo Orange have both sold them. Harris has them https://sheldonbrown.com/harris/tools...ket.html#crank
I believe they are US made by a machinist. I have one and it works perfectly. But I already have several old Stronglights, so the investment was viable.

You don't need an extractor to fit the cranks

I'm sure if you bought a Stronglight and needed to remove it then maybe some helpful soul on this forum would let you borrow one.

Plus once you have greased your bottom bracket and adjusted it properly how often do you really need to remove the cranks.

What is that saying.... "beauty is in the eye of the beholder?" Personally I don't think those cranks look good on anything.

I believe lots of older cranks were sometimes drilled and tapped for a triple. you can always find an older 110 BCD crank you like and make a faux triple provided your not looking for super small granny. the Deore cranks from the late '80s were nice looking

Oh, I need to be able to take it out for different rides. Planning on riding my vintage on a really steep century coming up in April. 5 miles of 18-21% grade. That's at the 80th mile mark. Ouch.

+1 I get all of mine from donor bikes, typically MTBs. Find a cheap MTB donor with a nice Sugino crankset, and you are ready to go.

I like the Sugino XD600.

If used is ok, Sugino AT triples are pretty darned nice.

Well if you don't want to invest in a Stronglight puller you can always use the poor man's puller. Take the crank bolts out, ride around the block or in your driveway, and do some wiggling. It will come right off.

Shimano FC-b124 looks classy, though not super common.

These arent as fancy looking as the Stronglight/TA units, but they do have a good utilitarian look to them.

This is a SR Apex, but the 'Super Custom' looks similar. It came on some Japanese bikes. Probably cheaper than the others posted. I'll pile on to Thrifty Bill's idea. Find a doner bike.
