Imagine my delight... rebuild thread
AFTER PICS BELOW
Generally in February... in New england at least.... bike shops are struggling through the monotony of cleaning the store and building bikes for the upcoming season...
So imagine my excitement when through the door walks a long since, basement banished De Rosa covered in dust and cobwebs. Then the magic words... "I want you to do everything you can to make this as look as good as it possibly can."
Yes Sir
You brought it to the right place
Here are a couple of before pics, cell shots, so they arent great, but its all i had, I'll bring the good camera in to take a nice shot once its done.
Campy C-record... I get to use my 7mm Allen Wrench.. YES!
Also the little tool for the self-extracting crank bolts, that little 2 pin deallio... i won it on ebay for 2 bucks a year or so ago, and finally got to use it.
I'll keep you posted as I progress.
Speculation as to model and year are welcome, 1st gen c-record puts it around '85 you'd think, right?
Also where is the serial number?

I would STRONGLY recommend replacing the Modolo Kronos levers with something C-Recordy. I used them BITD and broke a couple of blades myself, I would imagine that age wouldn't help that any.

Very cool!
I've sold my Campy cranks that use self-extracing bolts, but have an NOS Campagnolo tool that allows you to use a wrench on the M7 allen key if you're interested.

Im getting the feeling this frame might be a bit earlier than the c-record... I dont know a thing about dating derosas but the locknuts on the front wheel are '80 and on the rear its a '76 on one side and an '83 on the other... haha kinda wacky. Thinking maybe the drivetrain was a slightly later upgrade... i dunno.
but look my bench is happy swimming in a sea of vintage bits

I must warn you, bicycles of this vintage especially Italian give one a contact high and you become a raving addict Forever.Speaking lines from "Breaking Away",drinking wine, double shots of expresso and making offers you can't refuse on campy parts. Spaggetti sauce stains on your merino , getting up 5 a .m. to watch the Giro. If you display these symptoms, don't worry your not alone! P.S. I still remember my first Cinelli model A

Looks like it was repainted by Weigle (or his wife).

This bike is hot.
Man, it's like being paid to play. Have fun. And get a better camera when you're done.

I spy with my little eye... a Betsy Weigle respray decal!
Right on Colonel
I wonder if it is the original colors... I love the celeste panel but was ever so slightly put-off by it, as my Cotten was until now the only other bike I'd seen with a celeste panel. heh

Is that a Weigle decal that you are referring to on the back of the seat tube?
I am unfamiliar with this paint scheme, but De Rosas are often surprising to me.
Serial number is usually on the bottom bracket.
We had a Professional SLX last summer without one.
Looks like a fun project to say the least.
If it were me, I'd either have Super Record or modern Campy on the bike.

Any shots of the fork crowns in which they are free of road grime?
Sharp, clearly focused?
Any shots of the seat cluster that are sharp?
How about of the bottom bracket area?
Are the stays diamond shaped?
How about writing on the dropouts?
Does it say Campagnolo or De Rosa?
Curious minds are trying to figure this one out.

Kind of looks like a Professional. We are at the shop this afternoon and trying to figure out the year.
Personally, the color scheme doesn't wind my binder.
But, then again, it's not my bike so no worries.

Does the 'De Rosa' on the seatstay caps read horizontal or vertical? Pre-87 on the horizontal, post on the vertical.
It appears to have a chainstay bridge and diamante stays...pre-86 Professional, I believe, on that count.
I just noticed, on the last pic, it has a tubular brake bridge...definitely 86 or before.
