Carbon fiber frames, forks, seatposts, handlebars, cages, cranks ... the notion that carbon is the only worthy material for a modern bike.
650B wheels and tires.
Disc brakes for road bikes.
Oversized bars and stems.
Truth be told, most of the Kool Aid "innovations" are useful to someone. It just gets annoying when they reach fad status, or manufacturers/stores start phasing out perfectly good products to replace them with more expensive and less durable replacements. On the other hand, some of the items listed here by others are some of my favorite products -- canti brakes, KoolStop pads, VO products, canvas saddlebags.

If I'm being honest, this is exactly the reason why I converted the Davidson. I wanted to be able to hang with the fast guys, and my limited gearing, downtube shifters and slightly heavier weight was a limitation. I mean, my engine isn't what it used to be, either, but I sure feel that my new gearing is on the way to preserving my knees if nothing else!
I'll find out if I can hang with the fast guys in early July when I go out to MN

Tough stuff, hope I make it.

^ If it's dry tomorrow, I'm off on a ride-'til-I-puke jaunt
Missed out today - had three services over making bids on my lawn-rework after the tree removal. Getting pumped to have the front yard of my castle straightened out.
I should do a thread on that project - what do ya think?

I've never really accepted Shimano, nor indexing, but I have my Mondonico set up with Campy 10 and I like it. Also not bought into Japanese bikes, '60s/'70s/'80s Schwinns, and touring bikes.
I'm slowly easing over to clinchers, and am awaiting delivery of a nice nearly-new Terraferma randonneuse frame. Hetres, here I come!
I think my bike quiver is going to contract to the Mondonico, my old Trek 610 or maybe the 620, the Terraferma, and the UO-8. Keep the PX-10-in-a-box, finish it and decide about it after I ride it a while.

Hipsters
Drewing any frame
Putting really fat 26" tires on a road frame.......wrong in so many ways
Shimano........i have a few, but they're holding 10 pound test.
Leaving really bad rust on a frame, and then drinking the " it has so much carracter!!!!!" Cool-aid.
Italian bikes with japanese group sets......kinda like seeing a Dodge Viper with a lawn mower engine

Let's make sure our point for posting here isn't, "here are things I'm ignant about but that doesn't stop me from having a strong opinion."

This thread title should be:
"here are things I'm ignant about but that doesn't stop me from having a strong opinion"
Now back to the mindless complaining........

+1...I can't believe people are still giving this legs. Seriously - no one cares if you don't like hipsters, IGH, Campagnolo or those new fangled saftey bikes. For every thing you kvetch about, you probably do something others find just as stupid.

I'm really sorry you aren't enjoying it, but I really don't think you are taking it in the spirit it was intended. I really just thought of it as a way of getting to know other facets of BF members. You learn just as much about a person from their dislikes as you do their likes. And if you read my op, you will see that in my example I in no way implied that just because something isn't my hook it is somehow unworthy. I also am comfy enough in my tastes that if someone else doesn't like them I do not feel that is an insult. Some of the people who are the most angry about this thread are folks I really admire, and it totally bums me out. If you don't like it, then don't partake, but why sully everyone else's fun? I have seen you make some pretty strong assertions in other threads FWIW, so why is it suddenly so unholy for everyone else?

I wouldn't get bummed out over a bike thread.

Not drinking the "if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all" kool-aid. The thread was light-hearted right up until the moral police showed up to scold everyone for not singing cumbaya and stroking each other.

If you thought this thread was supposed to be anything but silly and pointless you need to unbunch your panties. Some of us may have a dryer and admittedly more caustic sense of humor than you prefer I suppose. And yes, to those of you who continuously spew a holier than thou attitude where none was asked for or needed I do get a bit queezy. CLEARLY this thread was ment to poke fun at all of our sensitivities, not console them.
