That second one is clearly too big for you. I, who specializes in what bigbossman likes to call "freakishly large frames," would be more than happy to pay shipping (and maybe a bit more:rolleyes:) to take it off your hands.

Thanks. Apparently Cinelli had some agreement with Brügelmann in Germany to produce the Leggerissimo model, all of them yellow and red. I think it was a special order bike. There's some debate about the tubing. I've read that they were made from lighter weight Columbus tubing, but I don't know if that claim has ever been substantiated.

It is at the top end of my size range. I will probably resell it at some point. It looks pretty good from a distance but definitely has some condition issues that I will need to work on. It's a 72 like my other one.

I want to ask a question about these Cinelli's. It's not a criticism, I just want to understand. The seat stays on these bikes kind of look low-end to me because they are plain looking, bolted in stays. I thought that seat stay caps and there shape, weld and pantographing were a mark of craftmanship and a frame that is more high end? I don't see that on these Cinelli's. Was there a reason for the bolt-on stays?

I do not want to raise a debate but I think we can agree a Cinelli may be one of the best and rarest bikes still in production OK? so here is my question

Does Cinelli constantly produce frame in house at a low volume rate?

Or do they build say 2000 TSX frames in 2009 and sell them as their XYZ model until exhausted and then build another 2000 bikes in 2012 of Brain and sell until exhausted?

Also are they built in house or contracted out?

The stays are brazed on to the seat lugs, much like any other. The bolt that goes through it the seatpost binder bolt. If you'll look at some modern SC's, you'll see there is a Cinelli logo "button" embedded in the seat stay cap, and the correct bolt also recesses into the round opening. The correct bolt is hard to find for some the earlier models, and the picture you refer to is either older or a different model, I'd assume. Old Fat Guy would know, perhaps he'll follow this and email me the info.

I don't know how many they make in a given year, but the rep at NAHBS told me I could order one via the web site and it would take "a few months." I never thought to ask him if they ran production every year at a given time, and what changes there have been, say, in the last few years. I priced a 10-sp Chorus SC, probably in 2008, for $3250 delivered to my door, from lickbikes.com.

Good questions.

I'm picking a certain SC up from the paint shop today.

No, its actually a feature designed by Cinelli I believe, and at one time unique to Cinelli frames.

I love this thread!!! There were so many design innovations introduced by Cino Cinelli that were adopted by the bicycle building world, e.g. the fast back seat stay, sloping fork crown, etc.

I know there are more Cinelli's in the hands of forum members that could be posted though.

As others have pointed out, the stays are not bolted in. It is a seat post binding bolt.

Currently, some of their frames are made in Italy. Some are made in Asia. Depends on the frame. The XCR is made in Italy. I believe the SC is also made there. I would guess their "low end" Gazzetta is made in Asia.

I don't know about their production schedule today, but in the past I believe it was on an as needed basis. Production was never a certain amount in a year.

The bolt in the picture is original to the bike.

Yeah, I see that, it's just I wouldn't expect a builder to put the binding bolt through the "cap", so to speak. Back in the day, that seemed to be a place for a builder to show some nice work on the caps with possibly some pantographing added...

Is this what Gary Fountain meant by "fastback seat stays" and was it a Cinelli creation as debakl stated?
