Bikes: 1992 Miyata Nine14 Snake Skin Blue Shimano 105 Shifter Shimano 105 Ders' Shimano 105 Brakes Shimano 105 Cranks Wobler Wheels w/ Shimano 105 Hubs 14 Speeds ...is it fast, oh yeah!

Miyata 914

Hey guys,
New here to the forum, not new to bikes. Guy on CL is selling a Miyata 914 for 200. Bikes all 105 with Wobler 105 wheels, 14spd. I need a bike to ride to school, but I think 200 is a little steep. This Miyata does not have the cable through frame, has cable guides on the top tube. Worth the 200? Bikes in a alittle rough shape. Let me know. Thanks.

I would say for CL that seems like a normal price to me. I'm pretty certain I could put mine on CL for $400 get $350+ with the early 90s Shimano 600 shifters/derailers and vintage Dia-Compe brakes. I do live in a biking hot-spot, though, so maybe it's just me. I will say that I love my 914 and it's more comfortable than my previous 3 vintage road bikes and a little faster on the local little 20mi loop that I do. It has more usable gears for me, though(upgraded to 1x9), so that could well be the reason for the speed increase. In any case, I think it seems like a decent price and I can pretty well assure you you'll like the bike if it fits you.

Really good frame, decent components, poor condition.

$200 is a good price for a good frame with those components.
However, the condition of the bike looks like hard use, so check it out well.

In nice shape, with clean components and good tires, $200 is great.

From the pictures, I'd go $150 and count on $50 in getting it in dependable riding condition.

$200 is fair. I dont see rust speckling on the components whish is good. I think it needs a thorough cleaning, waxing, lubing, tune-up and probably tires.

Take a couple tools with you. You should make sure the seat post isn't stuck before buying. My guess is that it's fine, but sometimes sitting for a long time in a garage has a tendency for condensation/moisture and therefore things rusting into place inside a frame.

Yeah I was gonna take a 4/5/6 mm tool, my chain checker, and check to see of the head sets loose, the BBs loose, and see how true the wheels are and if the hubs are loose.

Pista is a little rough, i'd give it a 7/10. Only three trouble areas. I think that this is still an all original bike. The guy I bought it from was really cool, said he rode it in college couple of years back. I promised him I wasn't going to turn it into a fixie and he gave out a huge sigh of relief. Said he, "was happy to hear that someone out there still appreciated these bikes for what they are".

Ohh, I almost forgot. I was able to pick it up for 160. Not a bad deal I think.

Im really anxious to ride it, but I have midterms so ill have to put it on hold for a couple days. I plan on tearing it all down over spring break and rebuilding everything (hubs, BB, headset). Im glad to be back on a bike again after several years!

So I snuck out and took it for a quick ride (bout 15 miles round trip i'd say), ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! I'd have to say its one of the coolest bikes I've ever rode! It fersher needs a little tune up, but I can bust out my stand and give her a quick once over next. I just cant wait til I get some serious ride time in on her!

Told you you'd love it! It's finally warm enough around here for me to get mine out again. I think she's gonna get a tune-up in the next week and I'll get out for a ride next Thursday when I'm off of work. Congratulations on your awesome bike! Get up some good pics once you get it cleaned up a little and let us know how it does once you get some more miles on it. I'm sure you'll continue to love it as much as I love mine.

And Awesome deal. That's a sweet bike for $160!

Yeah, I agree!! I've already made a list of what im going to buy for it when my birthday rolls around here, in the next several days (<---hahaha, pun not intended). Im thinking some folding tubes, folding tires, new brake pads, new bar tape, some new pedals, and new cables, a saddle bag thingy, and a attachable pump. Then she should be good for awhile!

Got some cool gifts for my birthday! Parents got me some Infini Lights so I can ride at night, a Velo 8 computer, and some new brake pads (i had to tell them which ones to order) and cash so now I can buy my new tires and saddle bag. I love riding this thing!

Took the bike on its first real ride (tour de palm 50 mile ride), thing runs as smooth as a sewing machine. Super fast, responsive, stiff, and lightweight as well. As for an update I put some Micheline Pro Race 3 tires on it, some new bar tape (yellow to match the logo) and some spd-l pedals. I got some new riding shoes and that makes a HUGE difference when it comes to riding really far. Until next time, keep riding everyone!
