Oh that is just gorgeous. What a treat!

That looks awesome. I actually saw a thread about these bikes that reminded me there was an old racing bike at someone gave my parents about thirty years ago that has been sitting in the basement of their former hiuse ever since. Anyway my sister now owns that house and when I was last over there I checked and the bike is indeed a Drysdale. I believe it has Velox and Alvin decals. It also has what I think is absolutely awesome pinstriping. The parts on the bike are in very rough shape but appear all original including the wooden rims. I think I will ask my sister for the bike and make it my first restoration project or at least clean it up to take some good photos.

Trick Fall, that sounds very interesting! Yes, please, photos! I will get to my 'Alvin' one of these days.
Kiwigem, thanks! Colonel J, Thanks! You should ride this bike, I think the size would suit you. The jury is out, on the cable routing. In particular I am troubled by the way the brazed on cable stops for the rear brake are left of center under the top tube; you'd think if Mr. D. had built the frame for Weinmann brakes he'd have put them well right of center. I realize this isn't exactly what you're talking about... but it troubles me more than the fore/aft thing! Italuminum, yes, that is horse hide, hand stitched to bar and brake lever. Pain in the carpal tunnel! On the derailleur, if your derailleur only wants to shift three cogs, thenmy guess is: you have a three speed derailleur! But what do I know. Here's another photo or two.... http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8021/7...187dda9f_k.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7076/7...a3faf3a1_k.jpg |
wow awesome! love the color choices.

Yes, the housing stops for the rear caliper are curious. Hmm. Were there Weinmann calipers that had the pivot of the other side?
How does the derailleur operate? With no tension, the derailleur is in the largest cog*? I'm definitely up for riding that one! It looks like it'd fit me really well. *Edit: Yeah, that's clearly how it works. |
The only one I've seen.

Seller claims this is a Drysdale. Don't know how to verify.
