Show us your Drysdales!
I have not yet restored my 1930's Drysdale "Alvin" track bike, but will get to it one of these days. I've been working on the decals in Corel Draw.
And I've been collecting all the photos I could find of Drysdale bikes. But it is a very small collection, so far. So... anyone have a Drysdale? Or photos you can post? |
Show us your Drysdales! Sorry, couldn't help myself |
:troll:Ack!

I thought those were Clydesdales? And isn't there a whole forum for them?

Okay, I'll share what little I have so far.... Here's what's left of the original head badge, after peeling off two layers of repaint. I know, it's not pretty. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5252/...a437b9a5_b.jpg And here, based on that and some photos &c I've found on the internet, is what I've come up with, so far. In particular I dislike the fonts. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7079/7...82aff7b9_c.jpg |
Just got my Drysdale back...

Cyclart just finished painting and some body work for this Velox (Drysdale). They supplied the decals which are based on the real deals. You should check out www.thevintagebikelife.com for a Drysdale Velox Ace. This bike is based on the Red Devil model.

RHM, we're going to need better pics.

Yup, that bike is from the same period as my Alvin. My headbadge should look a lot like yours. Would you be willing to email me more photos? |

My email address was right here, but I deleted it. After you've been on the forum a while (50 posts) you can do private messages, but email would be great. Thanks!

okane - I really like your Drysdales. Any date on that catalog? I'm not sure I've seen that one. I'd really like to have copies of your scans.

So, I've made a little progress with the fonts and such....http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7063/6...612481f5_b.jpg
The description of the Alvin doesn't quite match mine. Mine was definitely set up as a track bike, with inch pitch chain and two fixed cogs, a track type handlebar, and no mudguards. It's not clear to me how mudguards would have been mounted anyway; I suppose the eyelets would have gone around the axles. |
Check the ACE.

No date on the catalog. Most of the catalog is balloon tire Shelby bikes and assorted balloon tire parts. The entire file is 34 mb (46pages) and I have a 10 year old pc (digital C& V), so I don't know whether it will send. PM me your email address and I'll try to send it. Just realized you will need to post your email because you can't PM yet.

Okay, so, to bump this thread for all the best reasons....
I recently finished restoring a 1954 Drysdale sports-tourist bicycle. It came to me as a complete bicycle but rebuilt with all modern components in 1976 or so (judging by the date on components such as the brakes). Beside the frame and fork, the only original thing was the build sheet, signed by Alvin hisself: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7076/6...cc39f0a1_h.jpg Which was enough to give me some idea what to do.... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7231/7...ea1ecf5d_k.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7103/7...7a50b74f_h.jpg More to come a bit later... I just ran out of time to play on the internet. |
Fenomenal. I take it that the bars are hand stitched? Can you post some details of your simplex derailler in the back, I tried setting it up on my 531 mystery bike, with a 5 speed cluster in the back (record hubs), but it could only reach the first three cogs or so.. I'd like to know where I screwed up.
|
Well, that's a good bit of awesome. Not a fan of routing the cables in front of the bar, but I like the rest!
