cinelli stem, drillium or forget it?

my PUCH came with a perfect cinelli stem except for the "%¤&/ idiot driled a m5 hole in it. I found a replacement but note the bottom is very scratched,
I had an idea of trying some artwork to hid it, use the hole or do something, I even consider putting a steiermark decal over it.

what would you do?[IMG][/IMG]

Save yourself the trouble. Just put a decal over it.

What was the 5mm hole for? Anti-rotation screw? Maybe a mounting point?

I think a decal is a good idea. A drillium slot would be pretty cool.

Tap that hole and use it as a camera mount

Personally, I've removed more metal than that from stems and run them. I don't think it should pose a problem other than aesthetically.

Or tap it for an anti-rotation screw. It's there you might as well set a filler screw there.

the anodizing is perfect, I considered the PUCH logo but it has square corners and that would weaken it, it would be fun to do something creative with it.

the cinelli bars are getting leather stitched on so whatever choice i make im going to be stuck with it.

Fill it with JBWeld or the like, and put a Chiquita Banana sticker over it. Something unpretentious.

+1 Then start a Blog "my communte my ride" and jam the digital realm with hours of pavment running under wheels. Then you sell the subscribers list as on ebay as "people who will watch anything." Ka ching, than go out an buy a buy another PUCH, this time with out the stupid hole in the stem.

Being a 1R, it probably had a cracked/missing wedge, the the screw was used to keep the bars from slipping.

'70s Cinelli 1R stem, drilled for center pull brake. Not unusual I'd say, although this is the only 1R I've seen like that.

Tap it and use it as an anti-rotation screw. The 1R will slip given the "right" conditions.

If teh stem was picked up in Europe, it would not be surprising at all that the stem was wired for either lighting or a speedometer. I have seen quite a few bikes with internal wiring for speedometers going through stems. I never dared to try it myself but did admire those it did it back in the 80's before wireless arrived.

There's gotta be something you can mount there. A stable, but rotary mount that you can put a supersoaker on? Don't know why you'd want a stably mounted squirt gun on your bike, but I'm sure you could find a use for it. Stick a pinwheel in there so it sounds like you're going super fast? Some sort of screwed in computer mount? Now I'm going to spend all day thinking of the fun things I could do with an M5 hole in a stem and try to figure out how to make my own.

I had some bars come with a similar sized hole just to the right of stem. I threaded in a brass bell, works great.
